Sick of hyped Xbox console?

The looming Xbox launch is just around the corner, a couple of months away…
So why is it that the only thing I can picture is another looming gross disappointment fueled by a half-billion advertisement campaign?

Yeah, I know, I should not ***** about something that ain’t even out yet, but still, the hype that is surrounding the Xbox is making me sick. I really hope M$ delivers on its promises, cause 300 M/Polys, err, *Cough* 125 million polys is sure a big number, and if this turns out to be only 40 Million I will drop my Xbox from atop of the CN-Tower.   Fly Xbox !! fly !!!!

What I’m trying to say, is that I’m sick and tired of bull$hit hype/promises of things to come, because once the hardware shows up in stores/living-rooms, the promises are nothing but someone’s wet-dream.

Top hypothetical reasons why the Xbox might fail:

1) Japanese Game Developers don’t create original +  exclusive games for it.

2) 50 percent of Xbox games are PC ports

3) 125 Million polys turn out to be 40 million.

4) Microsoft might have internal squabbles making decision process no betters then a bunch of chimps doing arithmetic.

Strange... I haven\'t really noticed a lot of Xbox hype.  Oh well.

Sheeesh, did you not see M$ courting the public/Japan, and Aliens? Promising the console that will be the last console you will ever buy?  

I frankly don\'t see how it could be overhyped

I don\'t think a single one of your hypotheticals are very likely... even 3D0 got japanese exclusives eventually, PS2 has many more PC ports announced for it, How many times has nVidia lied about specs (I\'m really not sure...),  every company has some internal problems....

If you are actually expecting 125polys then you need to be shoved in the room with the people who cannot stop saying "Toy Story-like graphics".  I could be wrong (some say I am) but short of game along the lines of Tetris is not likely to get close to that number.

ViVi: to tide you over until Ego I would add Morrowind to your list.  Large world (30-50 towns [cannot remember, sorry ]), a rich plot but everything is open ended so you can choose to ignore it entirely and just play in the AI world, very cool artistic flair, classes based around your playing style rather than being set in stone, etc.

1: 50 percent of Xbox titles are PC ports? Where did you come up with this figure?  Is DOA3 a PC port? OddWorld? Dino Crisis 3? Project Ego? Malice? Project Gotham Racing? The list goes on and on. I really don\'t know where you came up with the figure.

2: No system is going to show us 125million polygons all at once. You just can\'t. If you want that many polygons, they are all goin\' to have the same texure and there is goin\' to be no gameplay. The systems just can\'t handle it. MS hasn\'t hyped that no more then Sony did when they promised "Toy Story" graphics. Both companies have promised these huge stats and neither can deliver on that.

Personally, I have not seen that much hype for the Xbox, beyond the mandatory magazine interviews / articles.

The key word was "hypothetical" meaning this might happen, and if it does, it might hurt the XBox, don\'t get my post wrong guys, i want XBox to succeed, i just don\'t want another freaking system that don\'t live up to expectation.

50 Percent was just a number pulled out of my Azz it was meant to be a "what if" type of statistic.

I was reading stuff the people at MS/nVidia said about the XBox and its performance, and it made me think that it is just another wannabe-console-to-end-all-consoles...

That dumb bruce lee game. As a huge bruce fan I would like to give you a martial arts kick in the you know what.

Well, I for one am not sick of Xbox... In fact I can hardly wait for it to be released.

1) True. I do think that will hurt XBox dearly... unless their market doesn\'t care.
2) That\'s rubbish.
3) Come on now, PS2\'s polys were what, a third of what Sony originally promised? And did the PS2 fail because of that? Hell no.
4) Sony has DEFINITELY had internal squabbles over PS2, with Sony\'s corporates trying to wrestle control from SCEI and Ken Kutaragi

Exactly, that is why i hope it won\'t be a bull$hit faker.

I know in all this hype. Now xbox claims 125mps which you will proably never see in a actual game.
