DSL JUST SUCKS ass..And this is why

Ok...ok so I decide that I am sick and tired of 56k dial ups and having to pay for second phone lines and they say you can be online and on the phone at the same time..plus I am tired of all the time it takes to download porn;) But seriously I really wanted a fast connection. So I call up Att & and ask if DSL was in my area..yes it is they said.  What must I do to recieve it I asked. They replied. You must perchase the moden and kingston card from us and then will set you up with a line. I said ok I want to order it and have the service.. the lady said ok.  A week goes bye and it has finally come. I open up read the directions and install it on my pc. Ok after I have everything hooked I decide to try it out..first the minute you start to connect on line your phone line goes static..so why would you want to be on the phone and online at the same time if you phone is just going to be stacticy as hell. Makes no sense. After A thousand tries it seem I just could not connect. So I call AT&T Ameritech whom ever they are and ask them what is going on..you did not say that is going to be some much static on the phone that you won\'t even be able to use why your online..second I ask how fast is my connection going to be..They said well it all depends on the area..At this point I got pissed you mean I am paying the same amount of money as some other guy but because he lives in a certain area he is getting a faster connection???? So they tell me I have to wait another week for them to check the line and everything. I am thinking why in the hell did they not check the line when I fist ordered the service. I did not even bother to ask what area I fit in because I THINK that whole area nonsense is just BS.

So I say I can\'t connect..so she tells me creat a id and use this password she gives me to sign on...I tried everything she said and it did not work. So I  call back and she say well I can\'t handle  your problem so I will switch you to tech support...I said ok. Now I get switched over and I am waiting on the phone as music plays in the background..Now finally someone comes to the phone and tells me too call another number. I am thinking I was just switch to this number. They told me sorry sir but they sent you too the wrong place.. So I am given a number and  I call it..Now I get some message about some company...at this point I am totally pissed off because AT&T has dsl service and does not have any freaking ppl are there staff that now how to fix it.. You have to call around this...number...and that nuber to get help.. Well I said forget it and called the back and told them this was the worst customer service I ever had and AT&T should be ashamed to offer a service and not have the proper ppl to trouble shoot it.

So I am stuck with 56k for now I am looking at cable because comcast seems to get a real good customer respond on there cable modem service and I hate dial ups. And I don\'t have to live in a certain area to get a fast connection with cable modem. So maybe I will give them a call.

Comcast is great. I\'ve been with them for almost 9 months now, and I\'ve NEVER had a problem at all. I considered getting DSL through Winfire, and I even ordered it, but after FOUR months of waiting, I finally got a reply: "Your area does not have DSL-ready phone lines." FOUR MONTHS JUST TO HEAR THAT. So I called Comcast, three weeks later I was zooming at lightspeed and I\'ve never looked back.

I totally agree. Pacbell dsl is the worst. When i first got  it, it was great. I was living in san francisco at the time. I had a 1.3 mb connection, super fast downloads. Everything was fine...till i moved to Newark (right next to fremont). Get this, it took them THREE FREAKING MONTHS to transfer my dsl line to my new place. THREE WHO MOTHER LOVING MONTHS!!! Not only that, but when they FINALLY transferred it over to my new place, my connection was unbelievably horrible. I HAD A 320 K connection speed. Which wasnt even the promised 384 K . When I mentioned it to the technician, he said it was 384 k when he tested it. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!! every bandwidth test site I went to , gave me a lower speed. Not only that, I am limited to a top download speed of 40 k. FOURTY FREAKIN k!!! I have friends with cable who uploads FASTER then taht. NOt only that but recently , for the past three days, I lose synce from the dsl server and I cant use my dsl line for hours upon hours and i have to wait for it to get in sync againl. i call pacbell dsl tech support up and they do nothing. They send technicians out to check on it, the techs say the line is fine, but when i get home, my dsl modem is out of sync again. Im just glad that my contract with them ends august 20th. When Aug 20 th comes around , im switchin to cable or geting a fiber optic line.

My cable modem gets around 600k/s speed with no max download/upload.  I live in a 35k population town so I\'m sure there\'s a little trafic and on Fridays it can be slow.  But other than that my connection rocks.

i want a dsl, because it is better here, and the service here is better than cable service is.

i think it all depends on the area, so, in your  area, dsl sucks, well, over here its goood....................

DSL is great.  I hooked it right up no problems.  I\'ve been using it now for about 2 years and I have had no problems what so ever.  I think this one may be chalked up to operator error.

Oh, and could you please hit the return button once and a while.  Your first post up there is extremely hard to read.

I got ADSL.. its 512kbit right now.. But they\'re gonna upgrade to 2-3Mbits..

I dont need to dial-up any server.. I just open IE and a site shows up that says Undername and Password.. thats it.

Mine is 768K/sec...and at peak times, it\'s up to 1000K/sec... It\'s fast enough for me...

I have Road Runner cable. 3mbits per second. Yeah baby. :cool:

P.S. Sorry to hear about your problems. Customer Service always sucks.

well i am getting cable through @home pretty soon and well i can\'t wait

finally i can throw this pos away i am using - it doesn\'t even have a 56k modem - its a 33.6 - you have no idea how this feels

anyway from what i know my cable will get around 300-1000k
