Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (My Honest Review)
« on: July 23, 2001, 12:35:10 PM »
Well...this was the most visually stunning movie that I\'ve ever seen. This movie makes Pixar look like powderpuff. The music was great, but there wasn\'t all that much in it. The plot was just plain crap. There was almost no plot. I loved the movie though. There was just enough plot to get me through it. It was slow in the beginning, and then gradually picked up pace in the middle, and the end sort of slowed down, but not as bad as the beginning. I really enjoyed it partly because I\'m a big Final Fantasy and Squaresoft fan , and like anything that has to do with them. They rock. THe voice acting wasn\'t bad at all. There was a 2 minute scene where it sucked, but everything else was great.

I would recommend seeing it. If you\'re going for the story, you may very well be disappointed. But if you\'re going for the splendor of the visuals (like I was), you\'ll be very satisfied. There were parts of the movie that looked so real. Anyway, here\'s my rating:

Visuals: 10/10
Plot: 7/10
Music (for the amount that was in there): 9/10
Steve Buscemi\'s Character: I won\'t even go there
Aki\'s Hair...;): 10/10

So basically, if you\'re going for the visuals, you may wet yourself at times. And if you\'re going for the plot...I hope you enjoy \'cause I thought it sucked...it was ejoyable, though...just some parts were lame. Great movie...

I seen the movie and I have to agree with you on the story.  It just well boring and very confusing too.  I probably need to watch it two times to understand it but I didn\'t.  I just left after the credit roll and watch Scary Movie 2.  I kinda hate the ending song, it sang something about spirit.  Just soon after the song was on, I couldn\'t wait to get out of the theater.  It seems like many characters are well you know.  Only two left Aki and Dr. Sid...hint..hint...blah...blah....blah...great graphic but some scene is just boring, wow, 2 minutes of seeing a spaceship blow up.  I already seen enough of ff7 and ff8 fmv with scene of building got blow up and stuff like that.  It just boring seeing this thing blow up and special fire effect.  Some part of the music was good but other is just worse than ff video games music...just my opinion.
Also the graphic looks real but some motion capture is just, you know not realistic.

storyline - 7
graphic - 10  (they should do a better facial and character movement.  Only Aki hair move very smooth.)
music - 7
voice acting - 9, some part they did a good job syncing the voice, while other, the cg characters need better facial expression to fit well with the voice acting.
playstation 2 rules.  Nintendo Starcube Dolphin drools.  Hehehahahheheheh...

I saw the movie yesterday.  I went in knowing what to expect, so I didn\'t really leave disappointed.  The visuals were amazing, and so were most of the action sequences.  The animation was especially fluid and very life-like.  Easily the best CG I\'ve ever seen.

The story wasn\'t too great.  I\'ll forgive Square, however, since FF: TSW is their first big-screen film.  Hopefully they\'ll make another movie that revolves around FF\'s true fantasy roots.

Was the movie worth the money?  Definitely.  Hell, I\'d pay twice as much just to see Aki again.  She\'s just so damn fine. :p

The story needed more depth to bring all the loose ends together.

It needed a few more revisions. You can tell that the story was by two un-tested screenwriters.

Actually the story got better on my 3rd time seeing it.

Because i had already got the graphic parts out of the way the first 2 times i saw it, I took an in depth look at the story and comprehend what i heard.  The story does actually make perfect sense, and is actually well thought out....only if you know whats going on from the get go.  However to avoid spoilers I will just shut my mouth right here :)

Maybe I will go see it a 4th time :D
