IGNPS2
Gamers\' Day Impressions
"As you probably well know by now, Splashdown in one IGNPS2\'s most wanted games of the year, and was listed in our Must-Have Games of 2001 feature. Splashdown is a stunning looking seadoo game, using fully licensed skidoo watercrafts, and balances a fine line between arcade and sim gameplay, and some of the most technically impressive water effects we have ever seen in a game -- and yes, the most certainly includes WaveRace 64.
Due this fall, Splashdown is a one to two player game that is based on entirely realistic water and craft physics, but has been tuned for fun, compassionate gameplay. We\'ve written at least three different sets of impressions on the game to date, so I\'ll give you the latest status on the game as follows.

There are more than 18 courses in the game, and three different difficulty levels. Each course boasts secret areas, shortcuts and ramps enabling players to pull off in-air stunts and tricks, of which there are 30 in the game. For those who played Rainbow\'s ATV racer, they will feel at home playing Splashdown. Opponents will crash into you, ride over you in some cases, land a jump on you and are quite aggressive, and they also follow a programming technique called ALOD, Automatic Level of Difficulty, which bases the AI\'s toughness of the player\'s abilities.

The game features a training mode, a career mode, freeride (which is packed with hard to get bonuses, such as devilishly placed skins, and extra characters), and Countdown, a balloon grabbing mini-game to nab increasingly valued balloons.

The Rainbow team is currently working on the water and particle effects, and are in the works implementing a froth map, which shows the froth of waves as they roll up on the shores of the local islands.

To be quite honest with you, the game plays very differently from WaveRace 64 but its also entirely fun, actually incredibly fun, on its own. After having seen it again, I definitely feel that this is a must-have game for the year. "

They showed the game on German TV today. It was an early version (30%) and the water looked already great. But there were foggy backgrounds and popups. I guess they`ll fix it for the final version . They said the gameplay was already great, with good physics etc.
I keep an eye on this one.
