Anyhow, I was up at Babbage\'s today talking with a friend who works there, and the Sony rep walks in. He goes straight to the back to talk to the manager, and after about 10 minutes, he comes out and starts talk to my friend, who is working the counter.
He asks him about PS2 sales, and software sales. He also lets my friend know to upsell anything Sony whenever possible. After they get done talking, I introduce myself, and he asks me if I have a PS2. I tell him yes, and that I\'m really happy with it. He starts to get candid and asks me what my favorite type of game is, and I tell him Role Playing. I also say right after that, that I really like games that have Japanese voices and english text and he smiles, knowing exactly what I\'m talking about. (Final Fantasy X)
Here\'s where it gets cool. While chit chatting with this guy, I asked about the FF 7, 8, and 9 re-releases on PS2, and he said the following...
"Well Those games are definitley coming out. As soon as we get those on the shelves, Square will probably be finalizing Final Fantasy XI." (So expect the re-releases sometime in early 2002.)
Then I asked him about Final Fantasy XI being multi-platform, and he responded with..
"Yeah. I don\'t know about the XBox, but I know it\'s going to be on Gamecube. The build on that version is coming along about as fast as the PS2 version. That\'s okay though, because once Final Fantasy XI is out, we won\'t be seeing any other Square games on any other systems." I asked him why, and this is verbatim..
"Square is going to be bought by Sony next year, about the same time Final Fantasy XI comes out. The reason they are re-releasing 7, 8, and 9, besides the fact that they could look so much better on PS2, is that they have a contract with us concerning number of games released. Square\'s contract said that Sony had exclusivity through Final Fantasy 14, but they took a bath on that movie. So now Square has negotiated to sell to Sony. Sony allowed Final Fantasy XI to be multi platform so Square could be in the black so to speak when the buy-out occurs. The stipulation concerning the multi platform release of that game, was that Square had to fill thier contractual obligation before the buy out. So they are releasing those 3 games again, totally redone." So basically, since Sony is allowing Square to release FFXI multi platform, Square is selling out to Sony, after Square fulfills thier release contract
this is coming straight from the IGN boards
Well I don\'t know if this is true, but it actually sounds like it could happen. Since square hasn\'t developed for another console over the last 4 years. Making one finally deal with the mulit-plaform deal so it sounds possible. I don\'t know guys is it true or fake.
