non PS2 owner, has some questions for you guys
« on: August 12, 2001, 06:09:30 PM »
I\'ve been a die hard computer gamer, and I\'ll admit it that computer gaming is on the verge of dying (in my own opinion), I
\'ve owned a few consoles and never played them much, because at the time computer games had more to offer for my needs. So now I\'m thinking of getting a PS2, here are some questions.

1.  Is there any way to hook a PS2 to a Sony 19" monitor?  That would be sweet because besides my big screen tv, I have an old junk tv, so if it wouldn\'t work, I\'d have to go out and buy a new tv.

2.  Is Sony planning on any price cut on the system when the Xbox comes out?  I think retail price on one is $299 right?

3.  If no monitor support is available, what kind of TV do you guys recommend for playing on?

Thanks for any responses
Wheeler

Yes there is an adapter you can purchase that allows a PS2 to be hooked to a monitor

Price cut should happen this Holiday Season expect $250.00

ANy higer end TV will do SOny Wega\'s are recommended, but its also recommended that you use component or S-Video cables for these TVs for better pic quality

What is the Brand name of this adapter, exactly...so I can order one.

I\'m pretty much sold on one now, because I\'m 100% sure that a PS2 game would look better on my monitor than tv, and Sony Wega tv\'s are pretty expensive last time I checked.

Sorry guys, but there are VGA Boxes for PS2 !
I don“t know where you life jwheeler, but there is a very good Game and Hardwarestore here in Germany: http://www.gamefreax.de ... they do have an english spoken page, where you can find this one (about 50$) ! But there must be other pages who have VGA Boxes... ask MIKE@Gamefreax for some information, or visit the Forum !

I think it would be neat to play my ps2 games on a monitor..... I should take a look at this..... instead of buying a TV for my room I can just use this monitor!:)
.... take the skin and peel and back...

now doesn\'t it make you feel better?

Don\'t buy Sony WEGA tvs.  They\'re overpriced.  I repeat overpriced.  Just because the tube is flat, doesn\'t mean it should double the price of a curved tube tvs.  No HDTV support if it around 21 - 27 inches, no digital.  And some doesn\'t include component cables.  If I were you, I would go for Toshiba flat screen or Panasonic flat tube.  They\'re cheaper and they give equally same quality and even includes component video input.  If you are going for 32" and higher, don\'t buy projection tv because it would likely burn the projector.  Go for HDTV widescreen or high definition tv.  A 34" panasonic flat and widescreen cost about $3500 which is kinda of expensive.  The quality is as good as a computer monitors.

But for a cheaper way, I recommend you wait till sony ship their first party VGA adapter or you can buy 3rd parties but it wouldn\'t be a true VGA port but rather line doublers $30.
