Best Looking Cel-shaded game?
« on: August 24, 2001, 11:00:21 AM »
What do you guys think of the latest batch of cel-shaded games? What do you guys think are the best looking ones? I am NOT talking about gameplay here, people :)

Jet Set Radio: Future

Zelda: The Cartoon Years

?

I choose Jet Set Radio, personally, 2 different styles to be sure, but the cel shading is so much more detailed on JSR:F

zelda looks good in motion....but still pics of jet set radio look much more detailed and the worlds are much bigger than whats been shown in the zelda movie....

exept for the jaggies,  i think jet set radio looks the best.

There is still a year an a half of development left in Zelda and I\'m sure it will improve dramaticaly. But so far JGR:F has more details like buildings and people in the streets. They are also two different kind of art work,Zelda is old facsion,JGR is cool and new.So it\'s really hard to tell which one looks better, and which one has the look it\'s supposed to have.
Man.. if BookerT lit a fart during a Spinner-oony.. it truely would be the most electrifying move ever..

Zelda is full cel-shading whereas Jet Grind combines cel-shading with lush 3D graphics... It\'s hard to compare. Wait until they are both out.

Like Games said, they\'re both different styles.
JSR is the new streetwise graffiti look while Zelda
has that big production cartoon look. When I see
this Zelda screens, the style also kinda reminds
me of that \'Batman\' of the future cartoon look.
Stylised, lots of thoughtfull details, but then also
somewhat Minimalistic cartoonish. I like that.

Actually,  there is the possibility that the walls are just place holders for zelda at the moment.  The game could very well have textured walls when the game progresses in its development cycle.  1.5 years is pretty far off right now.

Shoot I was just going to point out that.

Jet Set Future only has the main characters cel-shaded where as everything in Zelda is cel-shaded. It\'s difficult to compare, but overall Zelda\'s cel-shading techniques blow away JSF\'s. It has those ugly black lines even in motion you can easily see them while Zelda looks exactly like a cartoon, which is really the whole purpose of cel-shading in the first place. I\'m not really impressed with JSF so far, besides from the overload of geometry, there really isn\'t any major improvements from the original.

Yeah, because JSF would get it\'s ass royally whooped by Zelda in that case. Good point. :)

like you would always say jumpman..\'have you played zelda?\'

NO...so dont assume.....atleat we have an idea about jet set\'s gameplay because the game hasnt changed much from  part 1,  but zelda is totally different than the n64 versions,  so we have no idea how it will be like yet...dont defend zelda\'s gameplay so much until you play it....

and like alteredbeast said at the begining...were not talking about gameplay....so dont mix it in.....this thread is simply about the BEST LOOKING cel-shaded games.....

this is how wars begin....

The graphics are cartoony. Only significant difference. From what I saw of the gameplay in that video it\'s basically just the acclaimed OoT engine with a few new features and a slighty different and more cinamatic camera angle.

If the gameplay hasen\'t changed much from JGR then I see no real reason for anyone to purchase the game. The first installment was getting rave reviews because it was extremely unique and innovative. The gameplay was dull, to say the least. You went around trying to spray paint walls and cars and sometimes you would have a race with other characters. There wasn\'t much to say the least. Although it was fun, it got repiditive. Also, it had major camera problem which a lot of the times interfered with the gameplay.

I\'m so good.

Actually, I was just playing around with Beasty. :)

EDIT- Surprisignly, I just brought up a really good point about the next Zelda with the graphics being the only difference. Time to go write a mini-rant...

i thought jet set radio 1 was awesome..it was unique and had a really cool soundtrack....the US version was actually better than the jap ver...(waht a miracle)..that level in time square was outstanding..plus the extra songs in the soundtrack....
the gameplay was great IMO...i had a blast with that game...but you re so Focking right about the camera issue....god damn, i would ***** so much when the camera would make run into a wall or fall off a ledge....the camera in that game was the worst ever!...

but this thread aint about gameplay so ill stop... =)
