VGs getting canceled and delayed
« Reply #15 on: September 14, 2001, 02:04:45 PM »
lestat, where are you from and why do you keep spelling America with a \'k\'?  I don\'t know if you\'re aware or not but that spelling has, in the past, been used to denote an anti-American sentiment.  I don\'t mean to imply you harbor that sentiment, I only point it out because it\'s really starting to bother me to see that right now and would ask that you stop.

I don\'t think anyone in the gaming industry believes that the delay, alteration, or cancellation of these games will end terrorism or in any significant way alter the course of what will transpire.  It seems to me that these are more matters of respect, taste, propriety, and concern for the welfare of mankind collectively.

And you should be aware that the reason we have seen that plane, those planes, strike that building again and again is not to desensitize us but to impress upon us the atrocity at hand.  This is real, it won\'t be forgotten, it can\'t be.  We see it again and again so we are reminded just how terribly real this all is...

i know exactly what it means (and i THINK that spelling comes from germany.) i spell it that way everytime i talk about games being censored or delayed here in the states...i dont mean it in a hateful way towards my country because i am from the states, but i am upset at how games in ameriCa have to suffer from censorship and such things...

if im offending you at a times like these,  im sorry and i will stop..for now :)

Jesus Christ! A couple thousand innocent people died  3 days a go and (some of) you guys are *****ing about when Metal Gear Solid is coming out. Be thankful that this didn\'t happen in your country or to one of your relatives or God forbid to yourself. There are more important things to ***** about. I can\'t get over a cold in 3 days let alone the near loss of some friends and the loss of thousands of my countrymen.

Ah, I see.  I disagree with your views but freedom of expression is paramount to the maintenance of this nation.  If, knowing that it bothers me, you elect to refrain in the interim, it is appreciated and I thank you.

I abhor censorship myself but there are occasions it is a necessary evil and I feel this may be one of those occasions.

I too don\'t want to appear insensitive. But I don\'t think prolonging certain releases or altering games/movies is the way to go. Those who might be hurt by playing MGS2 should simply not buy it. If anything Konami can add a tribute in there.

And btw, these events have already affected already releases games. Red Alert 2 has been pulled off the shelves in Wal-mart and some other store. If need be, I\'ll provide a link, I\'m just too lazy to add it right now.

i agree,

why don\'t we stop people renting videos of Die hard?
or other material that may seem in bad taste right now this minute.

Which means exactly what? We won\'t get them?

But I understand the delays, I mean people are sensitive right now and playing games that involve terrorism might only make things worse.

anyone complaining or questioning the delays and slight modification to videogames after Tuesdays\'s events DOES appear insensitive

no one is cancelling anything and there are plenty of other quality games coming out at the same time

*sigh*

Not this "insensitivity" crap again...

Let me clear this up once more.  Nobody here is insensitive.  We all know what happened, and we all continue to mourn the loss of all those who died.  Nobody here will forget the incident that took place Tuesday morning, and nobody here will simply brush it off as though it never happened.

We are allowed to move on, and we are allowed to complain about other things in life.  Yes, the tragedy sucks, but no, we don\'t have to spend every passing moment remembering it.

The possible delay of MGS2 is not comparable to the terrorist attack.  That much is certain.  However, just because it is a miniscule subject does not mean we aren\'t allowed to express our anger over it.

So, for hopefully the last time:  We are not insensitive.  Everyone cares about what happened 3 days ago, but it\'s not the only thing we have to think about right now.

first of all let me say that what happened september the 11th was a tragedy and my heart goes out to the victims. now to the subject at hand. how is it wrong to release a game like mgs2 just because it involves newyork? yet no one is bothered by the fact that the media replays the plane hiting the wtc every 30 minutes.
if playing a game that is set in the city of newyork offends someone. then watching the news should offend them even more.
there are some very incensitive people in the US the are called the national media.
tis better to be cheap and good then just good

Within that quote lies the reason that the insensitivity issue keeps cropping up.  Right now, even as I type this and as some of you read it, there are those unable to think of anything else because of what this has cost them, all that they\'ve lost.  Move on, by all means, but we must tread lightly, we must act with compassion and heightened sensitivity right now and for some time to follow.

I play video-games avidly, I enjoy it, I would miss it if I could not do so.  Some of the games in question I very much want to play.  All of which is irrelevant in light of what else is at stake, for all of us in the free world, the price paid by far too many already.  If we only lose a game or two from all of this then we are fortunate, in my opinion...
