Anyone see David Letterman last night?
« on: September 18, 2001, 02:28:54 AM »
The most touching show that has been on as of yet.  Dan Rather cried twice.  It was a very good show and I am glad he came back.  I never watch Letterman anymore because I need my beauty sleep, but last night was very touching.

didn\'t see it but it was covered on NEWSBEAT it\'s the BBC RADIO 1 programme and it had highlights on it. IIt sounded touching and very emotional.

the American host of Who wants to be a Millionaire was on it with someone else couldent catch his name sorry.

it marks the return to comedy to the American Networks, it was great to see it handled propelly

Dan Rather is the national CBS anchor.  He broke down twice.  Regis Philbin was in for a bit of relief.

I saw it, I watch Letterman pretty much every night. It was one of his most personal and touching shows, second to when he came back from heart surgery. Kilbourn\'s show was similar to Letterman\'s, but I feel asleep after about 20 minutes of it.
I bet when the neanderthal kids would make a snowman, someone would always end up saying, \"Don\'t forget the thick, heavy brows.\" Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky brows too, and they\'d get mad and eat the snowman.

Leno starts back up tonight, but he can\'t come close to what Letterman did.  It was just so damn heartfelt that it hurt.  They have shown it a few times today and played a bit on the radio.  Hopefully people got to see or hear it.

One of the best shows from Letterman I have ever seen. It was serious, emotional, and the little jokes here and there, appropriate. It was an amazing and powerful night.

Also saw a little of Craig Killborn and his pre-guest speech, though I was flipping between him, and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. The discussion of coarse was on the bombing. But one seat was empty. Turns out, Barbara Olsen, the conservative commentator who died on one of the hijacked planes, was supposed to appear on his show (which was why she was on that plane). Very poinent moment. And the discussion, very good.

Thats one difference i always noticed between letterman and leno
when letterman wants to be serious he can be, but when leno tries he to be serious it still comes of as phony or something..... maybe its his chin

We\'ll see tonight.  They are promoting it as a touching moment or whatever.  I\'m sure it\'s because they realize that Letterman beat them to it.  Not that it\'s a race or anything, but Letterman is the man and he IS New York.

Damn... missed it.  I love Letterman, wish I could have seen the show in a different form.  I really hope they decide to re-broadcast that show or someone out there capped it & it\'s floating around on the internet...

Thanks for the info VH.

Anuone here see Conan today?

Very powerful monologue. IMO, his monolouge rivals Letterman in a way (though I still think Letterman was slightly better and emotionally hitting). Basically saying, doesn\'t know what to do (one of the few times he doesn\'t know what to do or say). He is paid to "act like an ass" so to speak. And when this happened, he wasn\'t sure if he should get back on the air. Also, he nearly broke down during his speech. Amazing.

IMO, Jay\'s speech, not that great...compared to Conans and Lettermans (both of which are in NY). Spoke from the heart, but didn\'t have the same emotionally degree as Letterman and Conan\'s monologues. But at the same time, I can understand a little. He is in LA. He doesn\'t work at the epicenter of the tragedy. Letterman and Conan, what just happened, happened right in their backyard. Very hard on both these men, and I appaud them for what they said and done.

I watched a minute of Leno and just felt like he wasn\'t there, he\'s a fake LA dude.  He was obviously touched by it too, but nothing compared to Letterman.  I turned to Letterman and he was telling jokes again.  very nice.
