Go to a gun store and buy one.  They put you on a waiting list and you get one in a couple weeks.

That\'s what you do in FL anyway.

Or you can go to a gun show and bypass all local gun laws.

Owning a gun is not illegal.  Owning a gun a and carrying it unconcealed is not illegal.  If you want to carry a concealed weapon, though you\'ll have to get a license.  And I think the licenses are different for every state.

In NJ, you can\'t carry a concealed weapon unless you fit the following criteria:

You are a cop.

You need a gun for your work.

You are from out of state, and want to pass through with a concealed weapon.

Also, in NJ, in order to get a handgun you first have to apply for a liscence to own a gun.

If you were even convicted of shoplifting as a 12 year old, you ain\'t getting a gun.  You have to have an absolutely PRISTENE record to get a gun in NJ.

Then, after that, you have to find a dealer who will sell you a gun.  He will put it on a layaway-type thing while you apply to buy a weapon.

You are then issued a permit to BUY the damn thing that lasts 90 days.  If it expires, boom, they take it, and you can\'t buy guns anymore.  You have to renew it, or turn it back in to the cops.  If you don\'t, you get arrested, thereby precluding you from ever getting a gun in NJ, ever.

You could go across the river to PA, and just pick one up.  Its really easy.
Let those who stand for tyranny and injustice fear the hell the United States will unleash upon them.

Try getting a real-looking toy one. Those will probably work also. :)

We have a thing called the bill of rights that many activists cling to and scream it at every little thing.  Right to bear arms is one of them.  I for one think it is a bit out of date and should be adjusted, but it will never happen.  The NRA will be all over any politician who tries to do anything with gun laws.

Lionken - It\'s going to be VERY difficult to get a handgun in NYC, I think it may even be illegal to own a handgun in NYC.  In the rest of NY, you can apply for a handgun license.  You have to take classes, give references (checked by the FBI), pay money, etc, but it is possible as long as you have a clean record.  You may consider just going to Wal-Mart somewhere outside of NYC and getting a shotgun.  They are very effective for home defense.

A lot of states don\'t actually have handgun "licenses".  For example, in KS, you just need a clean record.  The 5-day waiting period is only a cooling-off period, and is regulated by the city you live in.  Unfortunately, Kansas is also one of the 6 or 7 states that does not offer a concealed carry license for anyone except LEOs - no exceptions.  Nowadays, background checks are done over the phone, and are instantanious.  If you go to a gun show, you can indeed get a handgun right then and there, but you still have to go through a background check.

Good luck!
