Of course graphics add to the atmosphere, but I hate to see the concept of better graphics / worse gameplay and old ideas repeat after a repeat.
If graphics would reach a certain limit, the developers would have to concentrate more on the characters, psychics, storyline, gameplay, new ideas etc. etc. And artists would have free hands to make creative landscapes, without fearing to fall short in graphics.
Watch GT3. The cars - the cars are ultra-real. They\'re so close to looking like the real-life counterparts, that it would be almost impossible to separate them if the backgrounds, road, audience etc. wouldn\'t be spriteyish and cartoonish. If we continue on with this pace, we need to buy new consoles every third year, or upgrade our computers every year - just to be able to play the latest, in graphics, games.
I still enjoy such games as Lemmings and Doom, wich are graphically out-dated ( a long time ago, too ) - and I still think they are shining gems of the whole gaming history. They beat many newer, beautiful looking games by their pure simple gameplay and great level-designs. Or then perhaps you need to be a masochist like me to enjoy them, don\'t know
But the thing is, new graphics don\'t amaze me anymore like they used to. I have so gotten used to seeing better and better all the time, that I don\'t care if graphics halt in evolving.
