Problems With DVD
« on: October 23, 2001, 10:57:42 AM »
I Put in a Music DVD that I have recently bought. Im not new to the DVD Player nor the PlayStation2 in general, so I have tried everything i could possible do to tweak it and make it work. But heres the problem... I put in the DVD, and when it goes to play bam, its says "Unable to read disk" and leaves the screen blank going to the Control Panel Options and I have to press play to start the DVD skipping the ENTIRE beggining. I went to my freinds house the other day and it strait worked beggining to end. What could possibly be the cause and effect of this and HOW do i fix it? Ive tried going to the custom controls everything I could possibly do... nothing changed... Anyone that could help would be greatly appreciated.

How long have you had your PS2?  Is it still under warranty?  If it is, then send it into Sony and get it fixed.  The problem is a faulty lens that Sony put into the early PS2s.  If it is not under warranty any more, read this: http://194.47.16.181/forums/showthread.php?threadid=11121

BTW, if it\'s not one of the early PS2s, then it is probably just a dusty lens.  Get a lens cleaner at the store for like $10 and see if that fixes it.

I bought this PS2 from a freind awhile back so yea... I\'m guessing it is of older quality. Now about your older post about returning your screwed ps2, how long ago that you did this? I\'m seriously going to do it if it was anywhere from about two-three months ago till now. Great idea. Im pretty sure I have the box somewhere around here. i dont like to just throw them away, so I\'ll go searching for it, BTW what EXACTLY came with a ps2 strait out of the store so i can get EVERYthing. Try to reply ASAP.

EDIT: I\'ve found the box, and I also have EVERYTHING that came with it. So now it\'s a matter of waiting for your post, if its a go ahead or not, im probably going to do it anyway. But i want a firm answer to whether i should or shouldnt, I wouldnt want to end up in the long run without a ps2 and a fine.

The Box.  1 controller.  The manual.  The power cord.  The colored TV conector thing (red, yellow, and white thingy).  That is it.

I did this about 7 months ago, but lots of people have done it since then and it still works just fine.

BTW, sorry about taking so long.  I had to take my brother to work.

BTW, welcome to the forums PTB.  It\'s too bad it was because of a faulty PS2, but hopefully you\'ll stay around for a while. :)

Are there any other stores around you that sell electronics like K-Mart or Fred Meyers?  Don\'t try to do this at EB, Best Buy, or Babbages though, because they are smarter that Walmart is.

If not, try bringing it in to Walmart and see what happens.  Make sure you have a good story though. :)

I do have a story that Im going to stick with but Im kinda sceptical about losing my ps2 altogether... I\'ll raise HELL. The part I\'m paranoid about is the barcodes and the serial number, if they check these out, wont they found out pretty much everything about the console, cause if I go in there and they go strait to it Im screwed.
