« on: October 23, 2001, 01:40:18 PM »
Sunday is our X-Box/GC team meeting for Media dept. at Best Buy.

I get to play both systems, different games and handle the systems, hopefully extensively.

My store is getting:

88 X-Boxs for launch day.
26 GC\'s for launch day.

Babbages was getting similar numbers, just less of each. GC doesn\'t look to be coming out of the gates very strong.

I will gie you guys an update on any games I get to play, if any, on both systems, along wihth controller comparisons, although I already know that I like X-Box\'s controller.

I love my job :)

We dont do preorders either, not on systems anyway, so I am gonna go in and pick one up, hopefully on launch day, I get everything at cost +5%, but I think systems are priced near as low as they can go.

The Best Buy that I used to work at is getting around 80-90 of each. It is one of the largest and most profitable in our region so that may be why though.

Interesting numbers for your store, but nationally Nintendo will have almost 2:1 ratio over Xbox.  I believe the shipment numbers are 700,000 and 300,000 respectively, correct me if I\'m wrong.

I imagine both will sell through every console with ease.

actually, according to a recent Wired magazine article with the people actually constructing XBox, they will have 800k for launch, with 700k for the rest of the year. Production started 9/21 and will ship consumer units the week before the launch.

Even so, Nebraska seems like a upside down place of marketing:

Burger King bigger than McDonalds (only place in US)
Pepsi bigger than Coke (only in Us, again)
MS, from what I have heard from fellow workers of other stores, has more preorders than MS.

It shall be interesting to see what games are top ten from each console.  My predicts:  Luigi\'s Mansion, Halo, DOA3, Wave Race, Project Gotham.

Perhaps I\'d get X-box, but around christmas, I\'m getting a new computer - wich will be my gaming-aid for the next few years :D

But, please do update us. And bring your impressions.

It will be interesting, anyways.

Basically what happened was:

We showed up and watched a long demo of a bunch of gamecube games, which nobody seemed to care about. We got a bunch of information sheets telling us the pros of GC over the other two sheets. Straight from Nintendo of course. Nobody was too impressed with it.

for X-Box we finally got our demo unit in, but for some reason, we aren\'t allowed to set it up. We at least got to check out the accessories and crap, but didn\'t et to play it. We also watched a looping demo of a bunch of X-Box games. For some reason, they didn\'t show Dead or Alive 3, which would\'ve made people more excited, but on a whole, the Best Buy employees were excited.

We also got to watch some PS2 videos. This is where I saw the NFL2K2 video for PS2. I don\'t know if it is available on the web, but if it is, find it!, it is amazing looking!

hopefully we will soon be able to play the damn things soon, after all it is only two weeks til they launch! This isn\'t the best way to build hype! Dreamcast had demo units up at least a month before they launch. and I know PS2 had demo untis up around then, too.
