Gohan\'s Impression of the Cube Club Games
« on: October 28, 2001, 08:44:33 AM »
I went to Cube Club Boston on Friday night and here are my impressions of the games present.

Luigi\'s Mansion - The physics and lighting were VERY good. A lot of people walking by stopped and had that WOW reaction when looking at some of the effects involving the vacuum and different items. The game itself was pretty fun. I did enjoy myself while playing; but I don\'t know how long I could walk around sucking up ghosts. It did seem like something that would get old quick.

Smash Brothers - This game was hella fun. I wish I was able to get into some single player action; but I couldn\'t because their were huge crowds of people waiting to play. It is exactly what I expected to be. A suped up version of the N64 game with more options. For those of us that enjoyed the N64 version that isn\'t a bad thing.

Eternal Darkness - I was able to play this game extensively. It also seems like a game that I could get into provided more time to play it by myself. The graphics were above average; but nothing mind blowing. I don\'t know if this was an unfinished version but a lot of people were getting stuck at the same point and had no idea what to do. And there were no hints or clues as to what to do. That pissed some people off.

Wave Race - The water effects were REALLY good. Other than that it is just Wave Race 64 with better graphics. The water was really good. The controls weren\'t difficult like some were saying .I got into it rather quickly. I think a lot of people found it difficult because how the craft handles could be compared to how the cars handle in GT3, it is super realistic.

Rogue Leader - This is the game I went to CubeClub to play. It looked excellent and was a ton of fun. Not much to say about it. The handling took some getting used to also. I did not get the same experience of being on rails that others did though.

Pikmin - Surprisingly a lot of fun. I never even thought about playing this game until my brother said it was cool and told me to try it. There were only 2 days and a training level available but they were fun. The ground and terrain textures looked really good. One guy even commented that it looked like colorful characters running around on photographs. At some points the terrain did look photorealistic. You can really tell that Miyamoto was really into this game because the controls are really intuitive.

Star Fox - Looked good(excellent textures again). Game-play was above average. Nothing really stood out about this game. The Arwing levels were fun and the game itself was fun. I could see this game growing on me if I had more time to play it.

Monkey Ball - One word: WOW!! This game ROCKS!! Very surprising. I was not even considering getting this game until Cube Club. Awesome party game and the single player was fun to. If you are into multi player games definately try Monkey Ball. Most fun I had that night.

NBA Courtside - Somewhat disappointing. Nowhere near the level of NBA2k. The models and textures were again above average but the gameplay and animations were WAY too slow. I played a full game and enjoyed myself; but given the choice I would pick up NBA2k2 instead. If NBA Live 2002 is anything like last years version though, Courtside is much better. If they speed up the animations and gameplay this could be a contender.

Madden - Carbon copy of the PS2 version. No difference at all. At least not outwardly noticeable.

The GCN Controller -  The shoulder buttons were really cool but the big A button took some getting used to. Once you get used to using it the button setup could lead to some really cool button configurations. The Z button is extremely out of place and unreactive. The D pad is also easily accessible. Overall the controller was an 8 out of 10.

Is the gameplay in smash bros pretty good?

Same as the n64 version, or better with the GCN controller?

There are a lot more moves for each character. Like I said I didn\'t get much hands on time with it though because the crowds were huge.

Nice. Sounds like a honest gamers review. And I did not know eternal darkness was coming out so soon. But I can\'t believe starfox was just an average game. That is one of the games I am looking forward to getting.

I keep hearing a lot of good things about Super Monkey Ball, but I want to know about the single player. Did you play the single player at all? I never considered this game, but now I may end up buying it.

The single player was fun(it could get old quick) but NO WHERE near as fun as the multi-player.

A friend of mine from another forum, my brother, and I plan on hitting up the NY Cube Clubs when they arrive here, a week from today.  I wonder if they will allow me to bring and play my personal copy of Rogue Leader... ;)

Hahahah!  You know, I have gotten like 6 people from another forum I mod at to read The Wheel of Time, and now they all swear by it, even non-fantasy fans!!

Preliminary reports suggest that Book 10 (Winter\'s Heart was 9, unless my fever is deluding me) will be out at the very end of 2002, at the earliest.

However, the rewrites of Book 1 (now split into two books) should be out soon, and, they will feature new chapters and a new glossary.  I believe one of the new chapters involves Lews Therin Kinslayer, and is an expansion to the prologue of the first book, where he kills himself after he is "cured" by the Forsaken. :)

Yeah.
I know about the new book.
Unfortunately, the two are eing pubished by the kiddie sector of TOR and might therefore be dumbed down.
So, its the biggest question around.
Do you think Taim is Damadred?

No, the new books will not be dumbed down, not that I know of anyway.  At the risk of going even more off topic, yes, there is no doubt at all that Taim is Demandred.

Are you sure about that?
You might want to reread winters heart.
I mean Taim didnt recognize flinn as ashaman.
That wouldnt make much sense.

Hmmm... I didn\'t catch that.  But, there are so many clues.  Both Taim and Demandred have that same exact rare smile.  Both have similar abilities now.  Taim seems to have an unusually strong amount of ability and training, and he survived the Taint for what, 15 years or more?  I am convinced that Taim was killed and Demandred replaced him.
