I doubt that you people will be able to figure this out, but I\'ll ask anyway..

I\'m on Windows 2000 Professional. I normally use two CD burning programs: Sony CD Extreme and Adaptec CreateCD. After the last time I reinstalled Windows, I did not reinstall the CDExtrme software, only the Adaptec software, and everything went fine. Last night I tried to install the Sony software (which I have done numerous times on previous Windows installations), and it apparently has corrupted my registry. I cannot access my CD-RW drive through Windows.

What I\'ve tried:

I first deleted the Sony program. That did no good.

I checked the system BIOS to make sure that my computer could sense the hardware. It could.

I deleted the drivers for the CD-RW, and reinstalled them. That did nothing.

Does anyone have the slightest idea as to what could be wrong?

Do a serch in your Reg and see it it real has gone i has a very similar problem with Black and White (and i had to delete its entry into the Registry and (after uninstallation) before it worked...............

Can\'t you do a search with regedit?

If you want to use regedit, just go to your start/run and enter regedit

I know that, but where exactly should I look? I\'ve scanned around a bit; I found a Sony folder with nothing in it but my USB drivers, and some other things. But I dunno.

Your best bet doing a registry search is using the "Edit->Find" from the menu and search for something that would be unique to only its installation.

I can tell you though, you\'re wasting your time.  Adaptec writes their "EZ-CD Creator" to block the use of all other burning programs, especially Nero.  This will not even allow you to boot in anything other than Win2k.

IMO, Adaptec = Craptec.  There is much better for much less available.  Throw that sh!t away.  If you really love it, then good luck making it work.

I got my copy of EZ CD Creator for free.

Eh well, I\'ll get myself a copy of Nero.

However.. does the problem (or rather, whorelike glitch) with EZ CD Creator apply to their "DirectCD" program also? And would I be able to read CD-Rs left open for future writing in DirectCD in Nero?

Honestly I only tested Adaptec and Nero at the same time under Win98.  Couldn\'t boot.

My buddy tried lots of other programs with Adaptec under Win98 with the same results.  You may have more luck in Win2k.  But if you get weird reg errors like that, then you know the cause.

The thing was this: When I installed the Adaptec software after installing the Sony software, both programs functioned together fine. When I did so the other way around, installing the Adaptec software first, this occured.

So perhaps this is only an issue when you install the Adaptec software first? Hmm..
