High end Wegas do suport 1080i.  Go to the Sony store, take a few steps back and tell me if you can see the difference.

Never disagreed about the XBR=1080i, actually I almost bought a 32" XBR, except for that money I prefered a 16:9 Tau set.

What source do most stores demo HDTV? Usually dvd with composite connections, or reg. satellite signal, and/or, god forbid, cable.

Only until recently are retailers demonstrating their HDTV products in it\'s respective format, and that is still minimal to say the least.

For the most part, the Sony Store is far from being the hub of HT knowledge; with the exception of a couple of "senior" staff, I was usually confronted with the "deer in the headlights" response pertaining to anything remotely technical from their "casual" staff.

If your point solely rests on the fact on the casual observation of an XBR(or other HD capable sets) displayed at the Sony Store, I\'m really quite unsure as to the impetus for challenging people to prove you wrong; you\'ve successfully accomplished that.

That\'s my opinion; I have no intention of pursuing a ping-pong posting match to stand my ground.

No that is not the basis of my post.  I was just trying to think of a place that would have TVs.  I went TV shopping with my father and looked at dozens of sets.  I stand by my point that the difference of 1080i on a wega is slight while sitting across the room.

Dude.  I have to step in here for just a second.  I can absolutely without a doubt guarantee you that you were watching a progressive scan dvd demo.  If you weren\'t then you wouldn\'t be making a comment like this.  Go to a high end store showing HDNet.  Actually you can ask the guys at Circuit City to tune to it.  If you are telling me that you can\'t see the difference between a 16:9 Hi Def screen and a Wega, then you really should see a doctor.

And the biggest problem I have with the Wega\'s is the aspect ratio.  Do you people not realize that everything is going 16X9?  Fox, CBS, and ABC show almost all of their shows in 16X9!!  If you buy a high end tv 4x3 you are waisting money.

OK, point number 2.  Someone was talking about things going obsolete.  True.  4X3 SD Tvs are OBSOLETE!!!!  If you are going to buy one now, buy an inexpensive one.  HDs are dropping their prices FAST!!!

Point #3.  Someone mentioned not wanting to invest in a 4,000 dollar tv right now.  Well that is my freaking point.  That same TV was over 7 Grand just last year!!  One more year and it will be down to the 2000 range.

If it weren\'t for the change over to HD happening so quickly I would agree with you all about the 4:3 Wega, but it\'s happening.

BTW, College football in HD looks awesome.  Along with the full CBS line-up, the full ABC Line-up, movie of the week, Showtime, HBO, HDNet..

All of which you will not get to see for many years since you have invested in a TV that you will not want to part with for many years do to your investment.

But it is a nice TV.

4:3?
No.. Mine is a 16:9 :)

To simplifty Videoholic\'s post for you Watchdog, he is saying 16:9 is where the future is at, so just wait 6 months or so and get a 16:9 hd tv instead of buying a 4:3 for a similar price just now

I know this post is a little outdated.  I have a 36" Wega KV-36FS12 and I have the option in the menu for 16 x 9 but when I turn it on it stretches or kinda flattens the image.  I also have the PS2 setup to 16 X 9.

My menu says it can be done but in the manual by model number is one of teh exceptions to the 16 x 9 section.

What do you think.
