Subwoofers: What are the best ones?
« on: November 28, 2001, 02:28:03 PM »
Hey guys,

Quick question here..

While I am coming up with the cash is not a problem, but I can\'t seem to find subwoofers for my car, because I have no idea which ones are ideal. I\'ve looked at Cerwin Vegas, Kicker,  Rockford Fosgate, and just about every other brand out there.

My question is.

What do you guys reccomend? Oh, and what kinda amp should I get to go with them to power the subs?

Thanks in advance.

My brother has Jensens(spelling?) and has a 500 watt amp.  Sounds pretty good to me and the subs are 10s.  Just putting in my thought.:)

lemme get one thing out in the open..Jensens suck...

Now..next, there is no such thing as the best subwoofer. Are you going for SQ(sound quality) or SPL(sound pressure level)?

SPL is obviously deep bass..and SQ is a clean crisp sound. So which do you want, then I can help somemore:)

In that case, you will probably be happy JL audio, Infinity perfect\'s, MTX 8000 series or higher..the highest line of RF, audiobahn..forget the series..but they have a polished chrome basket and aluminum cone.

If you truely want a nice sounding system..just get a nice component set up front, the sub/s, and a 4 channel amp with      crossover ability. If you have more money to spend, get a seperate 2 channel amp for the component highs and a class D mono amp for the sub/s

I would double the recommendations that luckee mentioned.  Every owner of a JL Audio just loves their equipment.  For best of the best though, since you say cost is not much of an issue (and just to give you more to shop for & compare to), you should look into IDQ (Image Dynamics), Orion, and Eclipse for subs.

Again if cost is no issue I\'d look at Precision Power (ppi) and DEI for amps.  I would offer the more exotic brands like McIntosh but it doesn\'t sound like you\'re that ga-ga over car audio. :)  Make sure it\'s Class D as luckee said.  You\'ll get a bigger footprint per watt of power.

And I\'ll second you should stay away from Jensen.  Doesn\'t Wal-Mart and Kmart sell their stuff?

Websites to look at- http://www.zebaudio.com and http://www.carmedia1.com for best prices.  http://www.sounddomain.com has the best selection and is said to do price matching.

I\'m not too familiar with subs, but I say.. JL Audio and Audiobahn..

I have a couple of friends that are in a car group called Audio Klymaxx and run with those 2 brands.. They sound pretty good too.

my friend fit 4 12" Rockford Fosgate HX2 in his single cab truck powered by 2 Punch 800s and those suckers can cause some damage

he breaks his back window in competitions - plus he has some nice components

its funny he has to use a remote in competitions so he isnt in the truck when the music gets really loud and the back window breaks

but anyway i have to say eclipse has some rather nice speakers too
