OK back to the flicker...

Anyway tried a PS2 upstairs and its perfect on it. No flicker, no colour shading or any sort of problem.

Rang Sony Customer care and basically my opinions are...

a) Reconditioned PS2 - Second hand case which has been sent in and then the insides are all rebuilt up by Sony. Insides new, case second hand - probably been thrown around a room by a 5-year old kid but either way...

b) Repair - You get your ps2 back but unfortunatly its 3 - 5 weeks. Too long for me to spend without my PS2.

You also get 3 months extended warrentee so if your new ps2 say had knife marks or ink correction fluid spilled on it you could get another ps2.

Anyway collection is on Monday. You put ps2 in bag with two cables, cable block, controller and the unit and get a new one of all that except the ps2 case (another words you apparently get a new controller).

Now I got a swap out nearly a year ago and she slipped up on the phone and said did you get your reconditioned unit and I said no (i didn\'t cause i changed my mind when the delevery man was on the doorstep). So it seems that all ps2s which have been swapped out at least a month after purhcase are reconditioned even if you are lead to believe they are new.

Overall hopefully it will all be ok but I SHOULDNT HAVE A KNACKED PS2 after 1 YEAR! I\'ve looked after my PS2 like a son and the fact that i\'ve paid £400 for it and now have to suffer with a second hand case and built up unit isn\'t really on.

At the worst ill sell this reconditioned unit and get another one.

I just hope my reconditioned unit will play all the DVDs movies without lip sync and all them other little problems.

I am sorry to say this but, that is ****ing out of order, Sony needs to sort them selfs out, and realise that people have spent there money that they have to go out and work for on there product, why the hell should you not get a brand new unit, it is there fault in the first place for not, making the product better in the first place.
And how the hell do you know that the insides are new?
I really am going off of Sony big time, they need to treat there customers better.

Yeah exactly. Someone could have sent one in with problems and Sony don\'t see these problems and deem the console send outable.

I did ask why I wasn\'t being offered a new console like I got offered about 9 months ago (which she slipped up and told me it wasn\'t but I still asked) and I said is it because you give out new ones after say a month and then reconditioned ones and she said exactly. If you ask me they have all been reconditioned since she slipped up and asked me if I had recieved my reconditioned model (9 months ago) when they told me on the phone 9 months ago or so that it would be a new unit.

Im not too mad at their service in terms of swap out. Technically a guarentee should only offer a repair which they did offer, the reconditioned thing is just like a secondary thing.

However its the fact that i\'ve paid £400 for a PS2 which works and works for about 5 years, not £400 for a PS2 and then a second hand case PS2 for the remaining 5 years. I think I may see how much I can sell this PS2 and sell it.

Its Sony\'s batch of sh!t hardware which worries me. These forums always at least have one thread going with some sort of "my ps2 has stopped reading dvds" or "is this lip sync normal" kind of threads, and its a small forum compared to other gaming ones. Clearly Sony\'s (first batch at least) of PS2s have been crap.

That\'s stink Rich, iv\'e had mine since launch and fortunatley havn\'t had any trouble at all.. touch wood..
Well, if mine goes down i\'m getting inside it. you guys remeber me doing the rgb internal fix so therefore my
waranty is void. i\'m interersted in playing about with a mod to play import originals. hopefully the messiah can
be cleared and be continued..

Yeah I should have done the mod ages ago. I mean its not like their hardware lasts anyway.
