Lookin\' for Christmas mulah? Here\'s an idea!
« on: December 13, 2001, 10:02:22 PM »
From my experience over the last couple days...let me suggest a way to make a fairly good price on your previously played games...  Stop by a "private" [i.e. non-chain] video rental store and offer your games to increase their rental library.  I just sold 50 PS1 (basically $10/ea) games and 15 PS2 ($30/ea) games.  I\'m clearing over $1,000 with the deal...  I ain\'t complainin\';) and the "private" rental store owner is happy too, and I have spending money for this season\'s crop of new games.  Also definitely did better than I would have carrying them into a Babbages, or EB for credit, etc.

Just thought I\'d share...

Picture this: Dave finds an available seat for his \"Aggressive Drivers Anonymous\" encounter group session.   Saying, \"Hello\" he sits amongst his support group of S2K owners...  Smiling, they rock ever-so-gently to and fro in their chairs...humming peacefully...drinking coffee...and rolling little AutoArt & Maisto S2000s across their knees.  At this moment, the group responds in unison, \"Hi, w1ngman!\" :D

That is a very fair deal and not a bad idea.

I dunno:

- I like having a big library of games.
- If you can afford 50 PS1 games, and 15 PS2 games, you need money?!
- You\'re supposed to need the money for gifts for others, not for more games.

Yeah, but there one fatal flaw with that lil plan of yours. You actually have to sell your games! That\'s sacralige to me. I can\'t even bring myself to junk a old Commander Keen 1 disk I bought the other day that dosen\'t work.

Why would anyone want to keep the majority of their old games

i hardly ever play old games. I always look towards the new, so the thought of games just sitting on my shelf for some sort og gamers pride is pretty useless to me

I sold my PSX and every game on the system right after I bought my PS2. Not a single regret about it.

there will always be something nrew in the future and truly that is really all I care about

iwill do the same  eith my PS2 and its library when the time comes and have already sold PS2 games

Different strokes, different folks. I don\'t keep all my old games for pride, I keep them because I still play and enjoy them regularly. Every system I own is still hooked up to a TV and gets it\'s fair share of useage. Just because a game is old dosen\'t mean it isn\'t fun to play anymore. I feel kinda sorry for anyone who thinks that way. Makes them seem like a "shallow" gamer IMO. Not to say there\'s anything wrong with lookin ahead to the new. Todays new release is tomorrows dated software. If it\'s a good game, then it will stand the test of time.

It\'s also a hobby of mine. Software (expecially games) archival is to me what saving antiques from, say the 20\'s, is to others. That software is a piece of history, shaped and influenced by what was going on in the world at the time it was created. I think it\'s a shame if we all get too caught up with looking ahead and allow this software to simply dissapear just because it\'s "Old".

You wouldn\'t destroy a fully restored and cherry Model T simply for that fact would you? It might not be what you drive back and forth to work.. but it\'s still nice to take a cruise once in a while, know what I mean?

yeah I guess

I have to admit I\'m very un-nastalgic of videogames

I\'ll take the new experiences and leave the old in the past as mere reference material.
