Well...not to contradict you or anything...but...

I think it\'s not as much that they screwed up as that they were outdone, and never really stepped up to the new competition of PS2/X-box.  It could just be that they need time to find more developers for GC.  They get Squaresoft back, and maybe a few mature game developers, and suddenly the Gamecube is looking a whole lot better.

Bleh, I don\'t know why we even both debating non-Sony consoles in here. There\'s no winning. :)

Always something about "mature" games.. sheesh. How long were your brainwashing sessions? I skipped mine!

Yea, guess I\'ll go with u on that, but the Ol\' guy just doesn\'t seem to know where Nintendo needs to go in order to keep suceeding.  Hopefully they\'ll pull thier heads out of thier asses soon and realise we\'re not the same little kids that played thier NES and SNES systems, now we\'re all grown up looking for better forms of entertainment besides just Mario or Pokemon for that matter.

The only thing Nintendo needs to do is get the games out in a reasonable time. If they start to do that, then they\'ll be fine. The GBA makes enough money to keep Nintendo alive through-out some of the worst times. Not to mention, once Pokemon, Mario and Zelda come out, the GC sales will rise a lot.

Nintendo is smart for not going all out and targeting the mature audience. Sony and MS are fighting for that right now, if Nintendo entered that "market" it would be a no-win situation and they would risk losing more money. However, if they just release one or two mature titles here and there (Eternal Darkness, etc) and then let third party developers such as Capcom put some mature titles out, they will be okay. It isn\'t as if anyone else is targeting the younger audience, so this is just gurantee\'d sales for Nintendo once they start pumping the titles out (which, as I mentioned is their only massive fault and the reason for slow GC sales).

To add to the topic a bit, it\'s pretty widely speculated that he will be replaced with a board of people rather than just one president.  Hopefully a couple of those heads will have some good ideas.

Personally, I think they just need better marketing.  They have the games and the lineup.  They just need to make people notice them.  Crave them.

mmmmmm video games...

Eiksirf,

The television ads I\'ve seen for GC seem to aim at saying ‘the GC is here\' and not much more. I can\'t help but wonder if the strategy is to keep a low profile until more killer apps are ready with  plenty of consoles in stock to handle the demand. After all, while the NA launch wasn\'t a major sellout, basically there still weren\'t enough cubes to go around. Creating a demand beyond what you can reasonably hope to fill is a waste of resources. Maybe the reason I\'ve only been seeing ads for GBA lately?  Just thinking out loud. Pay no attention....

Nintendo is doing just fine in spite of pulling some major boners. Without a overlord at the helm who would only council with himself for advice things should go much better.

That makes sense but I still think mindshare is very important.

That is to say if people are going around thinking "GTA.  Playstation.  Xbox."  They\'re not going to be buying Nintendo stuff.

Hit them with something that leaves an impression and it\'ll pay off.

The commercials have become generic.  Despite showing off even third party software, it all blends together.  Game specific stuff like those funny Hedgehog commercials stick with people and that\'s what they need more of...
