Correction on Final Fantasy XI release date, pricing
« on: February 28, 2002, 10:53:31 AM »
I earlier posted a thread based on thegia\'s report of FFXI, apparently, this was premature, here\'s the real deal:

[02.26.02] » FFXI to hit Japan in May, not April, and at a slightly higher cost.

It seems the earlier report on the release date and pricing for Square\'s Final Fantasy XI, which originated from The Magic Box, was slightly premature. Famitsu today confirmed that the game would be launching on May 16th for 7800 yen ($58 USD), not on April 27th for 6800 yen ($50 USD). The game will come packaged with an extra disc containing the PlayOnline software needed to sign up for and use Square\'s new online service with Final Fantasy XI. PlayOnline will begin its official operations on that same day.

The reported monthly fee was also incorrect -- it will be 1280 yen ($9.50 USD) a month, rather than the slightly cheaper 500 yen fee ($3.75 USD) reported earlier. There\'s no word on whether the two free months of play that were previously reported will, in fact, be included with the game, but it still remains in the realm of possibility.

10 a month? Forget it. I\'m not paying them a 120 dollars a year for one damned game. If I could play it offline.. then MAYBE I\'d still consider buying it. I wasn\'t even all that excited about FFOnline anyhow.

Honestly, have you played a FF game for 12 months straight?  By then the price should go down to continue support. . . or maybe a "if  you\'ve payed full price for last month, just pay half this month" kind of deal.

Have I played a Final Fantasy game for 12 months streight? No, but then again none of the previous Final Fantasy games have been online. I\'ve played Phantasy Star Online religiously for about 9 months now.. most of that time I didn\'t have to pay one thin dime. Until v.2 it was completely free...(And still is for v.1) I\'m taking a break now because all my characters and cards have been transfered to v.2.. and I need a new HL. That\'s only 5 dollars a month. Actually, it\'s less than that.. 5 dollars is just the exchange rate cap. The price fluctuates, but never exceeds 5 a month. I will be back on it as soon as I can find someone to loan me their credit card for a little while. PSO v.1 is still totally free if I need to hook up with friends or get a game fix..

If a price drop does occur in the future.. then maybe I\'ll look into. I\'m not holding my breath in the meantime...
