Major Japanese retailer suspends Xbox sales
« on: March 08, 2002, 10:31:36 AM »
Recall or no, Microsoft’s Xbox is no longer on sale at major Japanese retail chain Loax. A notice, which reads “We are suspending temporarily sales of the Xbox console itself in order to supply credible products to our customers,” has been attached to display boxes in stores and is apparently a result not only of the console’s poor reported sell-through of 124,000 units, but the recent debacle over scratched discs.

Whether Loax will resume sales of the system is unknown at this time. Unsurprisingly, nobody from Microsoft was available to comment.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it Xbox fanboys!;)

Honestly, it\'s sad to see that the Japanese people will have to do without buying a few Xboxes for a while.:(  I guess this will have an effect on MS selling 6 million units by the end of June eh?

Well, I better get back to my PS2.:D

This will just make them want it more in Japan as soon everything is clear.  It\'s like eating candy for the first time and taking it away and getting it back later.

Heh I don\'t think this is really what it seems.  Sure the Xbox might have some defects/bugs - but I have a feeling the reason this retailer pulled it lies under the surface.

To put a message like “We are suspending temporarily sales of the Xbox console itself in order to supply credible products to our customers,” on the display to me sounds like typical xenophobia in regards to Japanese society.  Granted, the Japanese versions of the Xbox may have a serious problem, but saying that it isn\'t "credible" is different story.

Basically, I see it as a slap in the face to the US gaming industry.  The PS2 is Japanese and if something like this happened here (ie a sign like that) the Japanese would be screaming racism or something equally dubious.

The Japanese don\'t like competition from the outside and the Xbox was poised to deliver it.  One mistake is enough to give certain individuals in Japan (and some on this board) the opportunity to claim the Xbox is an inferior product.

Before anyone points fingers, no I am not an Xbox "fanboy" (what a gay term) because I have a PS2 and I have way many more games I enjoy for the PS2 than I do the Xbox.

This is strange. I have read many posts on many different boards, even on Xbox boards ,that people are having problems with their Xbox\'s, like games won\'t load, or the system overheating. I don\'t know what to believe, Did Microsoft put out a bad batch?  Mine works fine. I haven\'t had any problems with it except one time i got a can\'t read disc message on a rented game, after i cleaned all the fingerprints off it , it was fine.
Is the Xbox for Japan different then the one in the USA? I don\'t understand all the problems. Maybe I got lucky.
Xbox - live it......

pswto, you amaze me how you ALWAYS find the bright side to xbox news

the headlines could read

"XBOX secretly programmed to spontaneously combust after 600 hours of use!"

and you would probably say it is a bonus feature that the PS2 wasnt equipped with

/me goes back to wreckless

*cough*   "replay"
thats why it cant compete, and since when do we base games on graphics alone?

wreckless is fun, BUT when i beat it, thats it
no reason to play it again, and i dont even feel compelled to beat it

i wouldnt even call it bad ass, more like "flash in the pan"

good thing you can unlock filters to remove that lame "heat wave" blur crap

and my MAJOR gripe is how they mispronounce yakuza
i gringe everytime they say it

and whats with those cut scenes?

sorry, im ranting
