This is my mother\'s idea and it\'s a very brilliant idea, so if you share it with anyone, please give credit where credit is due.

My mom\'s friend has a child who is incredibly unrespectful and full of spite.  She\'s about 12 years old and she hits her little sister (5 years old), snaps other girls bras at school so hard that they break, breaks tables by flipping them over and throws rocks at passing cars.  Just about any punishment, standing in the corner, going to your room, being hit on the hands or on the butt just doesn\'t seem to work.  Recently, she\'s added the 9-1-1 number to her repoitoire and she calls it whenever her parents hit her on the butt for doing something she shouldn\'t be doing.

Eventually, the next step for this kid is juvenile hall and she\'ll really learn what being in trouble is all about, but until then, how can a parent change their child enough to where they can actually stop that sort of behavior?

There\'s a simple solution to it all and this requires two pieces of scotch or transparent tape and for the child to wear form fitting pants with pockets.  First, tell the child, after they have caused trouble, to place their hands in their pockets to where their hands are not visible in any way.  It\'s best if the pants are slightly tight.  Then, take the two small strips of tape and tape over the pants and onto the wrist.  If the child moves their hands, the tape will break and the tape will have to be reapplied and more time will be spent in that uncomfortable and embarrassing position because there\'s no way the child can reapply it after the seal has been broken and they move the other hand to fix it, effectively breaking the other seal.  It\'s painless, but it takes away the freedom the child has to inflict harm or get themselves into trouble.  It also eliminates any trouble with the police since you are not harming them.

Anyways, my mom\'s friend tried the punishment today and this little rugrat complied with every order after only a short time in that ridiculous position.  Idle hands are the tool of the devil so take those little buggers away and you are left with one pissed off yet compliant child.  :)

do that, then push her of the stairs!

I don\'t consider my self an abused child. I am grateful for all those punishments. Each time I did something stupid, I knew what was comin\'. Now\'a\'days kids do something stupid knowing nothing is coming. What\'s the worst that can happen? They\'ll be grounded? We all know those never work.

I guess " go to your room" is just preparing these kids to hear " go to your cell", because they will grow up to have no respect for authority what so ever and wind up in lock up most likely.

Personally, I find it amazing that parents cannot spank their children in America, but yet we can hand out the death sentence.

Children needs rules and punishment when they\'ve done something wrong. Otherwise they\'ll never learn - just look at how many young people are totally f*cked up and goes on killing sprees or whatever. A damn shame.

This is the most frightening thing for me.  Thinking about the possibility of having children that will grow up to be morally corrupt.  I cant even imagine what I would feel if I found out that my child was stealing from people, and using the money to buy heroin.  Or finding out that that your little baby girl has grown up into the local slut.  They are thoughts that are very disturbing to me and get me onto thinking about possibilities of punishment and what not.  But punishments really don\'t work.  Take into consideration the justice system.  Criminals don\'t think about the punishment when they are comminitting the crime.  They don\'t see the consequences.  Children are the same, only they are probably more stubborn and less willing to see the bigger picture.

I guess its like medicine.  Better to prevent, than to cure.  Prevent your child from growing up and turning into a hellian.  Educate them, instill values in them.. and then... HOPE TO HELL that they don\'t fall into the wrong crowd.  I don\'t want my kids to turn out like me (even though I know I\'ve never truely done anything morally dispicable).. but I don\'t want them at the other extreme either.

Too bad MacGyver isnt on anymore.. I\'m sure he\'d know how to handle it :(

It just adds a complete sense of dread, as the child looks at each tree, each brand and decides which one to tear off, knowing that it is goin\' to hit his legs and butt quite a few times.

As you can tell, I got the "switch" more than  my fair share.
:D

In my eyes that’s physical and mental abuse.

I never really got punished at all, and I turned out just fine. I think punishing/abusing kids is wrong, it will only teach them that violence is the answer. IMO take a child’s favourite thing away from them is the best idea, me it would be my internet or Sky; if I was still of the age to be punished that would piss me off allot more than being hit with a bit of ****ing tree. My kids will never be physically punished as I think it’s ****ed up and just a way for the parents to feel big and feel their in control.

The father.....or mother even....should whip out that belt and make the kids rear turn into a black and blue stump.

My Dad used to really kick the shit out of me when I misbehaved as a kid. Belts, shoes, brushes, these are some of the things he has hit me with in the past. I honestly don\'t think that this sort of correctional punishment is appropriate, it can seriousley injure a child, both physically AND mentally. Violence breeds violence, and with every passing generation, the violence gets worse. Is it any wonder that todays children are classed by many as "The  problem generation"?

I think a more fitting and suitable punishment would be to gound a child if he/she has misbehaved. Or take away their TV, video, games console or whatever they have in their rooms. Taking away a childs daily allowance money may even do the trick.

I just don\'t think violence will solve anything.

The punishment that I suggested originally was meant for children who still feared the consequences of not complying with the punishment.  If the kid stands in the corner or goes to their room when you tell them to, then they will put their hands in their pockets.  Thos who completely defy their parents need mental help, not a switch because if they continue to defy them, they\'ll never stop.

The punishment is to teach the kids that without their hands, they really can\'t do anything to anyone, to themselves, or to other people\'s things.  Your hands are the greatest provilidge in the world for those who have them and the police realize this because they hand cuff you as soon as they catch you.  Imagine your kids getting that same punishment, without the steel shackles, and without the brutal takedown to get them on.

Or... you can let them spend a night in county lock up.  ;)

break a finger every time the kid does something wrong, not only will the kid not be able to commit anymore evil deeds, but it\'ll scare the sh!t out of the kid.

NOO, don\'t break my index finger.

If these kids do not get punished for doing something morally wrong....they will turn out bad.  You cannot lock your kid in a room and expect him to learn a lesson
