The Getaway is going to be amazing
« on: August 30, 2002, 09:43:10 AM »
I\'ve copied this off the gamefaqs board from 2 guys who played it at PSE

I\'ve just come back from ps.e and you can run over peds. The a.i of the peds is great, if you mount a pavement they run to a wall and push them self?s up against it and some run off the pavement and into the road only to be hit be another car. If you go slowly in the car they have time to seek out some sort of protection but if you go faster they\'re toast. They role over the bonnet, go flying of the wing of your car, fly backwards and then get run over. The police are cool too, they use near by cars as cover and retreat if things get hairy, if you approach a bobby with your gun
out he runs off and finds backup. The cars are amazing you can shoot wheels out, windows shatter and then brake and you see the glass fall to the ground and then you can shoot through that window at people using the car for cover. You can shoot oncoming drivers. If you shoot the radiator it smokes and then bursts into flames and you see everything happen as it burns, the wheels bursts one by one as the fire burns through the car, windows brake the doors fling open and the hole vehicle slowly turns a chard black. This game is so amazing, the only similarities to GTa3 is the fact there?s a city and you can steal cars. It feels like the first proper adult game. I\'d say its a cross between MGS2 (sneaking and tactical decision making), Timesplitters (free aim point of target is the end of your gun and the fact you cant just go in and shoot the CR*P out of every thing, FFX for epic story line, Gta3 (good old street crime in a big city) ,GT for the quality of the car and there dynamics (they really do handle so well, better than most stand alone racers) and the getaway because it has so many unique features. If you can, get down there and play it.

The Getaway at the PSE was a demo version, it only
had the first mission chasing the jaguar into southwark
and then shooting your way through to jolsons office
then you have to drive to a bar/restraunt type place
shoot your way in there then shoot the lamps on the wall
to set fire to the place and the place fills with smoke
when you come out of there, theres police at the entrance
shooting at you when you get outside the screen goes black
and a message comes up saying "Congratulations you have completed the Demo".
I played it for a while and completed it and was very smug with myself it is a BRILLIANT! game.
I think it is a possibility that they might release this demo.
Maybe this is the demo that supposedly will be on OPSM,

after the jag chase if you shoot the man on the balcony
he drops a AK47 but if you blow up the barrel next to him
the stair and balcony fall on it and you cant get to it,
the bloke who was working at the getaway bit told me that
but i keep blowing up the stairs by mistake.

1. there is blood. When you shoot people with a shotgun it makes
a fine spray and splatters against walls and leaves stains
on there clothes with pistols its smaller amount of spray
and they react to every shot depending where you hit them.
The shotgun normally only takes one shot to kill.

2. Theres no number timer, the jag chase only has limited
amount of time because you have to keep up if you dont you
have to start it again. the restraunt bit didnt have a limited amount
of time you could do whatever you liked but
i was to busy trying to do the mission

3.its very different to GTA3 its more calculating than running in
guns blazing i loved gta3 when it came out but once
i finished it (without any cheats i might add) i got board
of it so now i would say i like getaway alot more if it had come out
at the same time it would probably be very close
but i would say getaway because i live in london.
legal crime spreys close to home hooray!

Did anyone notice the small detail in the game? If you shoot beer creates in the warehouse beer pores out, fire extinguishes leak when hit, bottle break in the restraunt, gas canisters blow up and set near by bad guys on fire (they walk around holding there face before falling to the ground) and gun shots leave holes, shoot a pain of glass in the warehouse and you get a hole with smashed edges and do it again with a shot gun and it leaves lots of little bullet holes, and this happens every where. Shoot wood and it leaves a splintered hole. There is a bar in the restraunt with loads of glasses and bottle behind it, I must of spent 10 minutes blasting the s***t out of it with the shot gun. You only usually see this sort of detail in a first person game. Loading times were pathetic I think it must have been 3 seconds at most.

This game is awesome marvel you must get a copy!!!
I\'m tempted to buy another ticket and go play it again on Saturday.

Wow, sounds like they have massively improved it since the mediocre PSW preview a couple of months ago.

Sweet!  This is what I wanna hear.  Can\'t wait for it to come out.

And yes, it does sound like it\'s improved a lot.  People used to whine about all the slowdown it had.

I Played it again at Gamer\'s Day, and I will say that they\'ve improved it a fair amount since E3. The cars were much easier to control, and there were less bugs. There were still plenty of bugs though, and the graphics just aren\'t as great as they want you to think with the screenshots they send out. The lack of a radar forces you to look at your turn signals to determine where to go, and when I played I drove around the same three blocks for ten minutes, with the lead developer guy trying to figure out why the turn signals weren\'t telling me the right place to go. Once you\'re out of the car, the controls, again, have been tweaked, but are still a little to funky for my tastes. THey actually feel a bit like Socom. It\'s got potential still, but they really need to get in gear and clean things up.
