I have a sound problem. Please help
« on: September 02, 2002, 11:00:31 AM »
Whenever I play games I get really bad sound, it\'s crackly and makes a really weird noise like screeching, something that is weird is I ran Unreal Tournament on Direct 3D and I got the sound problem but when I ran it on Software rendering it was fine, could it be the gfx card, my spec

320 ram
1 GHz pro
Riva tnt2 model 64

I\'m ordering a Geforce 3 Ti 200 128mb ddr in a couple of days, will that help?

* my sound card is a soundblaster audio pci card I think, the sound is perfect when playing music even with very high volume and I use my stereo speakers.

I noticed the same awful sound during the opening video of Unreal Tournament.  I also have a TNT2, but mine is a different mfg.  Could just be UT.

It\'s not it happens in most games, maybe it\'s just TNT2 suck phat ass? I\'m hoping the Geforce will fic it.

It\'s doubtful its got to do with any gfx hardware.. Try turning down your Main speaker volume. and turning up your speakers..

Also try updating UT with the latest Patch..

You could try to set the hardware acceleration slider to another position.
When I get sound problems or crashes with games , this helps sometimes.
Search for DxDiag in the DirectX folder.Open it, click on Sound and there is the setting.

You might want to make sure that your graphics card is not sharing an IRQ with your sound card, as this will sometimes cause problems.  Of course, one of my old systems used to share IRQs just fine, but some systems are more picky than others.....
