Primal impressions of the demo on the Winter Jampack

Not mine I\'ve copied them from a different forum but it sounds like Sony has got another winner on it\'s hands I

Primal is gorgeous, but the demo is BRIEF!!!!   It took me no more than five to ten minutes to finish.  It begins with a basic text introduction titled "Previously On Primal."

You learn that the main character, Jennifer Tate, was hit in the head during a bar brawl and is in a coma.  Her boyfriend is missing, and she is in the "Land Of Oblivion" with a gargoyle side kick named Scree.  I\'m not sure, but this could be a scenario similar to the film "The Cell," where you\'re actually playing/watching in your own mind.

The combat is very good.  The game itself reminds me of a hybrid between Soul Reaver and Eternal Darkness.  You press X to lock on to a particular enemy, and use the shoulder buttons to control attacks.  Pressing the left directional button causes Jennifer to mutate/morph to a "Ferai Demon" form.  She\'s much more formidiable in this form.  You can absorb energy from Scree and dead enemies much like how Soul Reaver works.  The big, big difference is that both characters are controllable.  By pressing the select button, you can switch to controlling Scree.  This is a bit reminiscent of Much\'s Oddessy on Xbox.  Near the end of the demo, Jen slips in through a small gap between walls,  She has to get rid of a large beam in front of the door, and then open it for Scree.  Both characters then work together to move a lever that opens a gate across the small bridge.

To sum it up, it seems like a mix of Soul Reaver, Eternal Darkness, and Munch\'s Oddyssey.  The graphics are stellar.  Everything is insanely animated from Jen\'s pig tails to Scree\'s idle movements.  If they polish up the combat a bit, and the game ends up playing at least half as good as it looks, than we\'re in for a big, big treat.  Between this and what I\'ve seen of "The Getaway," it seems those wankers across the pond know something about the PS2 hardware that nobody else does.  Very, very impressive.
