Need an external hard drive

Vid\'s thread of hard drives got me thinking about this. I need an external hard drive because I have way too much music and I\'d like to rip my cds to my computer too so I don\'t have to take them to school. What should I be looking for? I\'m looking at 300 gigs and want best deal/reliability at the same time.

Honestly, if I was you, I\'d just buy an internal drive an convert it to external. It\'d be cheaper in the long run, you could pick up a 300 gig SATA drive and external case fairly cheap.

320gig Sata II 16meg Cache, Seagate.

Just get a brand name 400+ gb and you\'re set. Go for as much cache as possible, low seektime.

I\'ve had some Samsung drives in the past and they\'ve always been fast, quiet and reliable.

The things that are most important to me are pictures. I have pictures on my hard drive that date back to junior year of high school when I got my first digital camera. I back up my pictures on DVDs and keep them safely away in my drawer. My music and movies can always be reacquired. I probably should back up my old school work though.
