PS2-sized Xbox due to appear at E3 show?

Microsoft is set to unveil a cut-down version of its Xbox console at this year\'s E3 event in the US, according to numerous well placed industry sources. The new version of the hardware is thought to be more akin to Sony\'s PlayStation 2 console in size, boasting flatter casing, ideal for stacking.

Microsoft is refusing to comment on this rumour so we will have to wait for E3 to see if it is true. :hold:

I don\'t have the money to buy an Xbox and the only game that appeals to me right now is DOA Volleyball (btw, is this coming to PS2?)

Sounds like a good plan... to bad they didn\'t start out like that...

same thing w S-type controllers, should\'ve started that way.

Agreed. This seems like a waste of time. After all that research they did not know the large sized everything would not go over well. I doubt this will translate into mega sales. Cute but no cookie. IMO
But captain what will we do for the pain? You scream for the pain!

Sony did it with the PSX and their sales got a boost. This is a good move on Microsofts part.

^^^^^^^^^^

Like I said...

People are more impressed if you get things right the first time around.  Then you don\'t have to go through complaints.

But that was years after the very succesful PSX hardware got outdated. So it was very cheap to design and also could be sold in very low prices. So it was easier and economically efficient for Sony to simplify it.Especially if all hardware parts were made from Sony itself.
The XBOX\'s hardware is still new.Its a 1+ year old console only made from very much PC like architecture. And the parts are made from various. There is intel, and Nvidia.
That would make it harder to simplify as it would  also raise a lot the production cost, and cause more loss to MS if they keep sellling it at the same price after that or less..

right the PSone is now pretty much as portable a console as you get.

Provided you have a power source...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

True, or some sort of battery pack.
