Will I see any of you in Vana\'diel?

Just curious.

After originally being opposed to the idea of Final Fantasy XI (online-only, HDD required, monthly fees, etc.), I did some research and now I\'m certain that I\'ll take part in it.  The game world is simply huge, and Squaresoft continually expands on it to keep everything fresh.  I never thought that I\'d be willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a single game, but it seems FFXI is turning me in a new direction.  I\'m almost certain that the game will be the best of the series, in my opinion, anyway.

I haven\'t seen a whole lot of hype surrounding XI here in the forums, so I was wondering how many others plan to join in the fun.  To those that qualify:  What race will you be?  What classes?  What country will you fight for?

I\'d be interested in knowing which of you I\'ll be able to find wandering around Vana\'diel after the game\'s released  (Q1 2003 for North America, I\'ve heard).

Oh, and broadband users:  The Final Fantasy XI LiveCam is up and running.  You need Windows Media Player 7 to view it.  I\'ve watched about an hours worth of video over the last couple days, and there have been some pretty interesting scenes, to say the least.

I\'m getting it, without a doubt.  It\'s probably my most wanted game.  I\'ve been reading up on this game for months and everything I read sounds like so much fun.  I like the way Square is handling the story of the game, and the art and locations are beautiful.  I\'ve seen some amazing screenshots and movies.

I\'m pretty sure I\'ll be an Elvaan... not too sure on the class yet.  Thinking of a Monk or Thief.  I haven\'t even thought about the city yet.

I think one of the forum members imported the game... hopefully he can post his impressions on it.

This one is a big one... it\'s from the PC version, so I just linked it.  It\'s probably my favorite armor right now, just before the Mithril one.

That\'s the kind of armor GMs wear.  It\'s a little blurry around the GM.  I hear they have some sort of red haze that surrounds them, so that\'s probably why.

I can\'t wait for this game.

Im definetly going to get this game.  At first my only beef with it was paying to play it.. well it wasnt even a beef, i understand how they have to charge.  I just wasnt sure i could afford it, but im getting a new job after christmas so im positive ill be able to afford it.

I cant wait.  WEll, I\'ll have to get a HDD, and Pay monthly for the game, but, this looks worth it.  it looks better then Everquest, and I decided that if I was going to pay a monthly charge for a game, it would be Final Fantasy, so, You will see me there.

I\'m already saving up the cash for it... well, and a PS2 which I still haven\'t gotten yet. But soon..

I have absolutely NO idea how I\'m going to juggle playing multiple online games.. but if Square can  keep things like duping, PKing, corruptions, and FSOD\'s down to a bare minimum.. then I\'ll probly end up playing FFXI the most.

I\'m still against paying monthly for a game, it\'s highway robbery.  No matter how good the game is, if it aint perfect, I\'m not paying for it monthly.

you are paying for the online services - if you knew how much money went into an online only game you would understand - there are a lot of ongoing jobs after the game is released - such as network and server - and a building full of gms and other technical and in game helpers

its a lot of things a reg game never has to deal with - since after its made its got nothing else to do but work on a sequel

Any of you visit ffxionline.com or anything?  In their forums it says that Square is sending out NA beta apps.

Basically, its about testing the Japanese client from NA.  Which all but confirms what I\'ve been telling people all along... we\'ll share the same servers as the Japanese.  Here\'s a link to the post.

People at GameFAQ\'s forum are getting the email too... tho normally I wouldn\'t trust any news from them... they\'re on the same level a spong.com.

Anyone getting this email?  I guess you have to be a member of Playonline.com (which is free to sign up to).  I have yet to get anything.

A weird thing about it is they as you how well you can speak Japanese and at the end of the form you have to fill out you have to write the closing comments all in Japanese.  A little confusing as to what they\'re doing.
