Dark Cloud 2 or Xenosaga?
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:35:34 AM »
Heres the situation guys:

Im finishing up playing Kingdom Hearts and looking for another RPG.  Kingdom Hearts was fun, at times, but now I want something with a little more turn-based strategy.  I havent played Dark Cloud 1 or Xenogears.  Ive read some reviews in the forum...but if you guys could give me your preference that would help with my decision.  Im leaning toward Dark Cloud 2 personally, but thats mainly because its 10 bucks cheaper.

Thanks

I\'m playing DC2. It is NOT turn based. It\'s like the first-- A dungeon crawler, albeit with a MUCH better storyline and many extras (Golf like game, Photography/Invention system, fishing/breeding/racing).

It is LOOOOOONG!!! I haven\'t even been messing with all the side stuff, and I\'m at 32hrs, and I\'m only on Chapter 3 (I think there are either 7 or 8). So, without doing all the side stuff (you\'ll know when you get it) it still will easily take me 60-70hrs. And I ain\'t putzin around either.

I haven\'t played Xenosaga yet, but it IS turn based. I will get to this one ASAP after DC2 :)

I don\'t think I can stocmache Xenosaga for awhile yet...I\'m still playing Suikoden 3 and I frankly i think there\'s too much cut scene in this game and from what i know, it pales in comparison to Xenosaga in terms of long cutscene ( could be watching the thing for 1/2 hour before you can get anywhere near a save point!!).

I wasn\'t particularly interested in DC2 as I don\'t like DC1 but I saw it running and the graphics is indeed very impressive..especially when compared to Suikoden 3 which I\'m playing right now which looks really bland..

I need to quit RPGing for awhile..there\'s too much of it on the PS2...

Too much?  Too much?  Take me back to the days of PSOne when I had titles like FF8, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy Tactics to choose from all in a one year period.  PS2 is few and far between with good RPG\'s.

Dark Cloud 2 is a mixed bag...presentation is top notch with some impressive visuals and nice art work.

The gameplay however, leaves something to be desired.  I\'m not a fan of randomly drawn up dungeons so alot of the game has gotten on my nerves.  I also found that the combat becomes a bit too much at times.  I hate how I can get killed in two hits, that the game is super cheap when it comes to giving money, the inventory is a big mess, and the camera could have used a bit of work.

I\'m wishing I had bought Xenosaga instead:(

I dunno about you but I don\'t have 16hours a day(minus 8 for sleeping) to play RPG...I\'ve abandoned Kingdoms Heart...I\'ve barely started with Wild Arms...then jump to Legaia 2...(completed the darn thing...crazy tough battles)...and currently about to finish Suikoden 3...and just got my hands on DC2 and Xenosaga...

I dunno about you but it\'s not healthy to be stuck with RPG\'s for such a long period of time....need to go out and smell the grass.

btw, IMO, FF8 was pretty crap, and Vagrant story was above average. So, you\'ve realy got 2 good RPG for that year...the last 6 months or so we\'ve been thrown with at least 4 to 5 RPGs(although not all of them are good, mostly average or above average)...there is still nothing to complain about.

I don\'t have that kind of time.

btw, I\'ve just started with XenoSaga...the battle system is really fun..although I really can\'t stomache the storyline...

I will say this.  Dark Cloud 2 is a very under-rated game.  It has by far the best cel-shading of any game, on any system.  Very Impressive.

The presentation is slick, and the voice acting is top notch.  Everything about this game is good, however the gameplay is REPETITIVE.  It mixes it up though, you\'ll be WANTING to go through more.  Leveling up weapons is worth mentioning cause it is awesome.

Inventing is an awesome new concept, and makes the game all that better.  The GeoRama is uber cool, making that worth your time as well.

I\'d pick Dark Cloud 2 over Xenosaga any day... but if Turned Based is your style go Xenosaga.  DC2 is not something to be missed, I highly reccomend it!
