Iraq downs US helicopter

The United States military has confirmed that one of its Apache helicopters has been shot down in Iraq.
Iraqi television showed pictures of the helicopter, which it said came down near the city of Kerbala, 110 kilometres (70 miles) south-west of Baghdad.

"I can confirm that we have one helicopter down," a US defence official was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

But there has been no response by the Pentagon to Iraqi claims that a second helicopter has been shot down.

Iraq\'s Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf said: "A small number of peasants - brave peasants - shot down two Apaches," adding that Iraq might show pictures of the pilots.

looks like even the "poor" man has a part to play in this war... if there is truth to the fact it was shot down by Iraqi peasants with low tech weapons.

God I\'d never be a helicopter pilot.  Not in the military anyway.

planes were shot down by the very same people that U.S military are trying to protect. they probably did it for the money that saddam has promised.
too bad that greedy bastard would have tose peasants killed before they even saw a dime of it.

Looked like the farmer was carrying a mauser or something. I doubt that weapon could harm a AH-64?

I could not see any damage from the pictures either.. Perhaps they had engine problems?
I hope the pilots escaped in time..

^^ that was what i was thinking, the apache had no visible signs of damage except that it was a little dirty.

Or maybe they don\'t like having bombs dropped on them? Just a thought....

It is suspected that the Apache suffered some kind of mechanical failure - at least that is what is being reported now.

Heh, I for some time wanted to be an Apache pilot. I still haven\'t decided to fly jets or a combat helicopter. But helicopter pilots tend to be a bit crazy which fits my profile well :D
