Ok this is the first negative thing I am going to say regarding the war...

Last night on Fox it was reported that the Gov. of West Virginia is going to make sure his state pays for Lynch\'s college education, I suppose, for being a POW for a WEEK.  There are also conflicting reports saying she fired until she had no ammo and killed a few Iraqi soldiers... I doubt this is true, for if it was she would have been dead and not in a hospital bed.

Back to my main point.  The real "heroes" in this event are the marines, rangers and spec ops that rescued her (and the Iraqi that helped locate her), but why is it she is a now the poster child for this war?  For simply being a POW she gets her college education paid for???? (I thought that is what the GI bill was for)  John McCain and numerous others spent years as POW\'s in Vietnam and in other theaters of war in this countries history and this woman spends one week as a POW and is being showered with praise and gifts (yes I consider the state paying for her education a gift - also who knows what else she will get out of this) for doing her job.  You might as well hand out "free" education for every servicemember then, but like I said the GI Bill pretty much covers college expenses.

Don\'t get me wrong, I am glad she was rescued, but I am sick of  the media and politicians portraying her as some great hero, when in truth she had nothing to do with her rescue and it was the actions of others that made this possible.

Do we even know that she wants to go to college?  Maybe she\'s not interested.  I say let her take her earnings from speaking engagements, talk show appearances, and the inevitable television movie deal, and use that for college if she wants to.  Give the college fund to the children of other service personnel who were killed.

Yeah she wants to be a Kindergarten teacher.  I agree there are others who have made the ultimate sacrifice and they haven\'t received nearly as much attention.  I also know the TV miniseries is going to be made at some point ;)

My whole point is that she has her college paid for with the GI Bill, why does the state need to pay for it?  Not only that, West Virginia is one of the poorest states in the country.

Yeah, she went into the military for money for school.

Believe me, 50% of the stories that come out of this are false and the other 50% are blown out of proportion.

This is the feel good story the news has been dying for.

No one has ever said the people who rescued her aren\'t true heros.  It\'s just she\'s the one that is hanging out with some broken bones and gun shot wounds so of course she is going to get the pub.

If you want to know the truth the true hero is the Iraqi who told the military exactly where she was.  That dude had some major balls.  Not only that, but he expounded a tremendous amount of effort to give the US that info.  We probably just blasted in there and shot the shit out of the place.

BTW, I\'m over 9000 posts and no one said a damn thing.  WOOT!!!!

I agree with everything you said. True, she was the one being rescued, but she reserved herself for the war which is more than all of us can say.

Oh belive me I think she did a wonderful thing serving our country.  The chick went through hell and survived.

Anyone think it\'s odd that they are going on and on about the indian gal who is the first female soldier to die in battle?

If women want equal rights, then why in the world is this chick getting huge press when everyone else is just plain dead.  Again I think it\'s very sad that she died, but she died for her country just like the other soldiers did.

Agree\'d. Equal rights means, no one should be treated different. Will they give free college education\'s to male POW\'s? Or is this goin\' to be a female thing only? And why focus all the media- attention to Jessica , while forgetting about those who died.

But no one has pointed out all of the civilians that Jessica killed before she got nabbed.  I think she killed 4 babies and 3 women according to the Iraqi Press Minister.
