Tech Help
« on: April 14, 2003, 03:46:28 PM »
Ok. I have a few questions that ill try to get summed at once.

1:My A drive wont work. The light stays on and when booting doesnt care if i have a disk in. When trying to read a floppy it takes forever and tells me the drive isnt ready. (ive installed 2 dif floppy drives and it does the same thing).

2:Is it possible for a good p3 chip to be on a motherboard so old that it cant even take an nvidia tnt2 and only has 2 ram slots? Plus the video card is internal to the motherboard so the video port plugs into the motherboard.

3:Can i over-clock a p3 at 733 through setup in the option space where it tells you your processing speed? I can change it all the way up to something like 900 or something so it sais.

4:Strangely enough i forgot how to install a new Hard Drive and i need to know because i have one drive partitioned into two but i have about 4-5 gigs left and i want a new one.

5:Is it possible do you think to rig my pc to have 2 powersources when there are two powersource slots but only a bay for one? (not really sure y i wanted to but i wanted to run 3 cd drives   :D Dumb i know).

6: Final question: how do i know if my motherboard supports DDR Ram or not? I want to put in a new 256 of DDR but not sure if id be wasting my money.

If it\'s just started doing it, and you haven\'t played with the IDE cable or your bios. Then i\'ll say it\'s ethier dead.. Or the disks you have a rooted, but even then they should still be detected.
If atleast 1 of the floopy drives u tried was new. Then try changing over the floopy drive ribbon for a new one.  If that doesn\'t work and you have a new floopy drive, ribbon and you have it setup probably in bios. Then i\'d say the motherboard is diein.

This i don\'t really understand. A cpu doesn\'t take a GFX card or onboard card. It\'s totally your Motherboard that has to support the gfx card or cpu. So you have onboard gfx and you\'ve changed your processor, makes sure your motherboard supports the processor. If it doesn\'t, get a bios update if u can.

here\'s details on o/c a p3. If you\'ve played around with your dip switches or bios and it\'s telling you a different processor speed then your stock spead. Then you\'ve probably most likely overclocked your cpu ;)

Install the new hd on the 2nd slot on your main IDE ribbon. Set you hd to slave. If you\'re on xp u can use Computer services under admin tools and format/partition the hd from there. On 95/98 etc you could use Fdisk or even a program called partition magic.

2 powersources?.. Just get a new psu. Make sure it\'s ATX and supports enough molex connectors for your cdrom drives.

Here\'s a image of DDR and SDR i doubt u have EDO ;)

On your motherboard in the mem slots look for how many notches it has. SDR has 2, DDR has 1.

Hope this helps.
