Playstation 3 games begin
« on: July 04, 2003, 01:44:24 AM »
Although it\'s only 2003, midway through the PlayStation 2\'s current cycle, IGN has learned a handful of publishers and developers are colluding together to begin work on PlayStation 3 games to be published in 2005.

The sources are numerous and widespread, but the murmurings have begun and they\'re getting louder. At this year\'s Electronic Entertainment Exposition in May, IGN learned that a veteran English developer (who asked to remain anonymous) officially attained PlayStation 3 documents outlining the general specs, from which they\'ll base one or two early game designs. Since games take about one-and-half to two years to design, it makes sense to start a PS3 game for a 2005 publish date.

IGN acquired information on several additional publishers putting together deals with developers to position themselves in 2005 with new games for the next-generation systems. Those publishers include THQ, Activision, Electronic Arts, Take-Two and Capcom. Also, current rumors support Rockstar North\'s early work on a next-generation Grand Theft Auto. We\'re sure many more publishers are on working on similar projects. For instance, in yesterday\'s (7/2/03) Game Daily newsletter, wanted ads have been posted for jobs to work on PlayStation 3.

Recent tidbits have flowed from several Websites indicating that the PlayStation 3 will be backward compatible with PlayStation 2, but not with PS one. So, the PS2 is backward compatible with the PS one, and the PS3 will be backward compatible with the PS2, but not PS one. Additionally, Sony plans to have only two systems in the market at one time, so once the PS3 gets swinging in 2005, it\'ll drop production on PS one.

Numerous sources have said outright the PS2 and Xbox are merely testing grounds for fully-fledged (and perhaps better throught out) online campaigns on the upcoming systems. And many companies, such as LucasArts, are looking at games such as Star Wars Galaxies and unofficially saying that it cannot be done on current generation systems. Instead, that game is far more likely to appear on PS3 and Xbox 2. IGN also suspects, knowing Rare\'s slow development cycle, that even the sequel to Perfect Dark will appear on Xbox 2, instead of Xbox.

Finally, now that we\'ve reached the mid-way point in the current generation, IGN has learned publishers are beginning to switch their kids titles from the PS one to the PS2, which enjoys a huge penetration point in all regions of the world, while simultaneously starting on their new PS3 games.

We\'ll have more on news surrounding the PlayStation 3 soon.

Does this mean that a prototype of PS3 is already done? What\'s going on then with the CELL? If this is true, we\'ll have very soon the first true unofficial specs for PS3.
Todas estas cosas se perderán en el tiempo como lágrimas en la lluvia.

Interesting news, if the games are in development then the software developers must have some idea of the machines architecture and specs etc.

Oh hell yeah. sigh* Man those were the days. Every other minute there was some noob or member talking about specs and how xbox would suck because it had a CISC processor and not a RISC processor like the ps2 and how the ps2 was a particle monster and could do far more floating point operations, bladie bladie blah.
Good times:D

Actually im kinda worried because for some odd reason i feel that sony is rushing things again. They havent said anything about the cell being close to completed and if they cant get the system up to the far-fetched specs that im sure they released (raw polygons, ugh. Too many discussions on that topic) then there is definately going to be trouble.

Im am really interested to see even the very first screen of a ps3 game. Screw specs, im ready to see a clear high-res screen at 1024x768. Man, im starting the hype. Ill shut up now.
ANYWAY! Im wondering what the competittion is doing and what sony plans on doing. Coming out early last round right after Dreamcast was pretty good and they sold ps2\'s like hotcakes but this time i dunno. When are the other consoles estimated at being released?

This is exciting...*teehee* I feel like a little school girl again...er...boy. Apple and IBM just came out with the Power Mac G5...which is 2.5x faster then the 3Ghz Pentium 4. It\'s insane...it can play Quake III Arena, full effects on, at 337+ FPS...ain\'t that some sh*t...

Perfect Dark on XBox 2 would sell like ass.  It\'ll have lost all it\'s name recgnition..

Anyways.. good news?  The earlier they start developement, the less chance there is of good games (such as The Summoner, Ridge Racer, Tekken Tag, etc) suffering from major flaws..

:)

Really? Oh $#!t! Man, i dont understand. I love computer and a know a pretty good amount but the g5 is only like what? 2Ghz or something? So what exactly makes it so damn fast? I mean i like macs, and if they had more compatible things with PC\'s then id say screw MS. I mean my first comp was an apple ( IIe i think?). But man 337+fps? You gotta be shitting me

What makes the EE at 300 MHz so damn fast?

Like the G5 the EE is based upon a completely different architexture.

Therefore it can do things in a more streamlined fashion, amongst other improvements.

The Pentium line of chips is OLD technology that hasn\'t changed significantly in design. The EE is 128 bit and has bandwidth to match, plus it was designed for multi media entertainment, so it has the appearance of being more capable, but the EE would fall short if it tried to replace your PC cause it isn\'t designed to do that efficiently.

You knew this though already didn\'t you ?

Awww, How true indeed.

I can\'t wait for the trolling, bitching, repetitve arguments which Establish this forum. Man those where good times.

XBOX2 vs PSX3 who gives a shit by them both, PC rules!!!!!!!

Just think about it I trully beleive alot of what fuels these arguments in related to money, cause if everyone had a free psx3 and xbox2 the bitching would be reduced to more than half, as people would lose there passion to justify there choice of purchase.

:D Yeah, but you just answered/replied to Lord Nicon. I was hoping my reply would ring a few bells considering what he posted about the G5 a post above. ;)
