Projection TVs and PS2

I\'m thinking about getting a projection TV.  I have read in manuals that say do not play games on projection TV.  I have seen projection Tvs say that they have a \'game guard\'.   What is a game guard?

Is there really any danger in playing a game on a projection TV or is the \'it will burn the image into the screen\' said everywhere so they can clean there hands of blood in case a rare incident happens and an image gets burned in the TV?

I know screen savers are to keep monitors from burning the image into the screen but that has never come close to happening to me.  I have had images while playing games on computer stay in the same spot for hours on time and nothing happen.

So is this a real danger for getting a projection TV?

I was going to buy a HUGE tv (projection or plasma), but everyone I asked said that it would burn in, so I just bought the largest CRT tv I could find.

Me and my wife play games way too much, and I didn\'t want to screw up a friggin expensive tv.

What\'s your budget?  A DLP or LCD RPTV (both digital) will never suffer from burn-in but cost about twice as much than traditional CRT RPTVs (enough acronyms for ya?).

Even so, modern CRT RPTVs are getting better at preventing burn-in.  Just about all of the people on the home theater boards I visit have never had a problem with videogame burn-in on a modern Toshiba, Mitsu, or Panasonic.  Just be sure to alternate what you use the TV for and you\'ll be fine.

The problem is that my wife WILL stay home and play an RPG or the Sims type games for 12 hours straight.

She has a gaming addiction...... and I love it!!!

At work we are not allowed to watch MTV on the projection tv\'s as there is a risk of the MTV logo burning on the screen. I guess the same principle will apply to games with still graphics and HUD displays on them.

what???? You can\'t see normal tv in plasma screens? All channels have a logo in it.... this is idiot.

Lucky man. sigh* If only more women were like this . I had a huge projection screen with my genesis and ps and it was great for the longest. Then it burnt out.   I dont think theres too much of a risk but i think you look for more than my opinion cause its not worth too much in this situation.

At least you know that this might happen. I was looking at the huge projection displays at SEARS and asked him about video games and the problem with projection TVs and he didn\'t have a clue what I was talking about. I didn\'t get a projection TV because I didn\'t want to risk anything. I play RPGs a lot and may occasionally leave the game where it\'s at and leave the room for 30 minutes at a time without turning it off (usually with games like the FF series; it takes 30 minutes to find a damn save spot anyway). So yeah...if you got the money, you can get something much better than a projection.

I played games and watched TV at my ex\'s house because she had a 65" projection TV...but personally, I think the picture looks like sh*t compared to plasma and HDTV. So...whatever you feel okay with, you should do it. Just be aware of the risks.

ehhh..  Plasmas are not what everyone thinks.  Just because they\'re thin and look sexy doesn\'t mean they perform better than a well-tweaked CRT RPTV.

Clowd- nice set!  The Panas are very popular and very tweakable.  People have been saying they\'ve gotten the 53WX53 for $1499 shipped (one guy got one for $900), so you might wanna look around.

Also check out the Infocus X1 DLP Digital Projector.  It\'s a bargain at less than $1000 and people have been having very good results with it.  If you\'re willing to set one up you can have a 92" 16:9 TV in your house.  Try before you buy..

I\'ve got an HDTV and everyone worries about burn in, but no problems for me. I play games, watch CNN, etc. Remember, any TV is subject to burn in, just some more likely than others.

I meant one that\'s not a Projection...but that one looks pretty nice. You should just go for it.

Only CRTs and Plasmas suffer from burn-in.  A true digital display (such as LCD, DLP, or D-ILA) will NEVER have this problem.

Yeah, my gf has like a huge ass 8 foot tall 10 foot wide tv. Its friggin nuts. Mad kool.
