Error message when trying to start game

OK the game is NASCAR 2003 (Papyrus)

I found the cd so I tried to play it again.  It loaded fine to the main menu.  From there I tried to go online.  The online said my game needed to be updated with the new patch.  I went to the sierra website and downloaded it.

Now when trying to install the patch it tells me something like c:nascrracingonlineserver.exe is not a valid file or whatever.  Then it stops the installation of the patch.  I try a couple of more times then decide to play single player.

When I boot up the game again it starts,  shows the opening cinema,  then the monitor blinks as usual,  but the main menu does not come up,  rather it takes me to the desktop where I see an error message that reads:


Runtime Error!

Program c;papyrusnascarracing2003/n2003.exe

R6025
Pure virtual function call

I click OK and it exits out of the game,  returning me to the desktop
help would be appreciated.

those are the words that I wish I wouldnt hear...because I lost the CD key....
