Hey everyone. Just checking in. Day 6 and i have no power or heat. There\'s still trees and power lines down everywhere. I\'m at a warming shelter in my town right now where there is spotty internet connection at best. A lot of my area is without power, my house included (i live in the mountains and woods). Temperature is 50 inside. Gas lines here are absolutely crazy that our governor is taking a page out of the 70s where we are on an odd/even system. I spent 3 hours in line the other night to fill up my Jeep before the system went in effect since I can only get gas on even numbered days, and waits are still on average 2 hours, if the place has gas. I\'ve had my camera with me since the storm hit and when I can, I\'m snapping pictures to document what\'s going on. I\'ll post them when my power comes back on. They\'re saying middle to the end of the week for my area.
Food is another problem, well for me. I\'ve been buying food wherever I can for a quick meal (I ate cold Chef Boyrd I got from a 7-11 because I can\'t use my microwave). At my house, we eat simple shit which blows (talking macaroni and canned foods and leftovers). I\'ve been buying food at the mall when I work and drove around today to find a bagel. My main bagel shop ran out of bagels and were only selling coffee. A lot of shops are still down and I ran around looking for a slice of pizza. I went into a bagel shop I went to as a kid and got a bagel and a cup of coffee.
I still don\'t know what I\'m going to do about voting this tuesday. With much of my area without power, its a big confusion on where to vote.
I still haven\'t seen many pictures on the devastation on the Shore. The pictures I\'ve seen so far made me tear up. The places I\'ve gone to growing up and the places up to this summer me and my friends have gone to have fun and relax are gone. Seaside where I went for my prom weekend and my ex girlfriend\'s prom two years later is gone. Asbury Park where I spent a summer with my girlfriend at the time is fucked up. Pt Pleasant which is one of my favorite spots is somewhat intact. I feel for those people living down there and lost everything and reading news articles on the destruction and the stories is very hard.
To get the power back on, there are utility companies from all over. Going to my friend\'s house last night, I passed by a slew of trucks from Missouri on 287. I\'ve heard reports of trucks coming as far as Canada and California. It is still barely enough to get things going. Though I have to say, the companies learned from the lessons of Irene and the freak nor\'eastern we had last year and got their shit together.
Thanks for the thoughts guys and whenever I can get on the internet until my power and cable is restored, I\'ll let you all know how I\'m doing. Just keep your thoughts on the people down the shore because many of them have lost everything. I at least still have a roof over my head.
