Official Xbox Magazine
« on: December 19, 2003, 07:32:51 AM »
I picked up a copy of the Official Xbox Magazine and so far I\'ve only scanned through it.  I saw them take an unnecessary jab at Nintendo and it reminded me that it\'s a biased magazine, but it also comes with a demo disk.  It\'d cost 30 bucks for twelve issues and twelve demo disks.

And so I ask, does anyone subscribe to this mag, and is it worth it?

I\'m kicking around the idea of signing up, but I have to take another look at it.  I get too many gaming mags as it is.

I have had a subscription for the past 2 years and just renewed.
I feel it is worth it, but only at the subscription price.

Anyone who would  pay the news stand price month after month is crazy.

You are right, that they are overly biased even to the point of being deceptive at times. (giving the impression that a game is "ONLY ON XBOX", then when you find out it is on all the consoles, you go back and re read and realize they meant the Spawn character is "ONLY ON XBOX")

They have gotten better about this as people have complained, but they are still fanboyish at times.

It is worth the subscription price for the demo disks alone, and taken with a grain of salt, the Mag itself is good.

It is informative but, you just have to remember that they are always cheering for the Xbox team and their judgement is sometimes clouded by this bias.

I find the articles in XBN (Xbox Nation) to be less biased, more honest and most informative, but they don\'t have the demo discs.

I signed it up for it free, off the \'net. Can\'t say I\'m impressed with it or that I\'d actually pay for it ever.

Me too.  The demo disk isn\'t included, but oh well.

It is definitely a fanboy magazine -- an Xbox version of PSM.  They whine about the PS2 holding the Xbox back way too much.  But I do like how they give quick pros and cons of the games they review, and how they are at least somewhat honest in their previews by saying that a game has problems when it has problems (a lot of magazines won\'t mention problems with games until the actual review).

Oh, and kind of related... I saw a commercial for Project Gotham Racing 2.  And they had a quote that said something like, "This is the best racing game ever."  And then they said the quote was from XBM.  Ha ha.  That made me laugh.  (Ok, maybe you had see the commercial)
