Another (e)rror,

Alright, I got my mp3 player (Memorex 128mb, MMP8500) plugged in, properly (Ive done this millions of times before).

Now when I try to access the drive for it ( E:/ ) it says their is a I/O device error.

I have looked all over the internet, with no help. The USB cable is perfect condition.

Some stuff;
Win2k
256 Ram on comp
All updated drivers

What is the problem. May help come on speedy wings.

Did you reboot the pc? You may also want to try another usb port.

Yes I have rebooted it several times.

I have two ports. Neither works.

Where is soully when ya need him.

did you connect any PCI card in the 1st PCI slot?

Because some motherboard tell you this on the manual instruction that if you connect any PCI card in the 1st slot, the USB1/USB 2 back panel will all be disabled."

What that means is leave the 1st slot empty so you can use the USB 1 or 2 back ports. I have 4 USB ports that are USB-2 and i leave the first slot empty and connect my PCI card on the second slot since it disabled the USB function when i try to connect it on the first slot. This maybe your problem too.

Oh, does your motherboard support USB-2 (speed of 480 Mbits).

I need to know what your motherboard is, the exact board name.

Also, make sure you don\'t have anything else plugged into the other usb port. Normally I/O errors are from conflicts between devices.

Hey souldgrind, i took your advice and defragment my hard drive. it tooks like 2-3 hours and well, the computer does run the same before defragment. But when i try to pay high bitrate movie, the video get jerky and skip back like 1 to 2 seconds as it try to play and it does it constantly.

I found this happen after i disconnected my hard drive for a different brand new empty hard drive that need formatting and installation of window xp. After i formatted my new hard drive and finish installing my new window xp, i disconnected it and reconnected my old hard drive back.

I wonder, could that be the reason why my old hard drive doesn\'t run as smoothly. It might be confuse it between the new one and the old one?

doubt it, Have you tried reinstalling the codecs. Also, have u done any major changes in hardware..

Are you using the new harddrive in the system. If so, is it a slave and you have the old one as the master. If so, Switch them, if the new hd is faster, that should be the master. If you machine supports more then 2 IDE ribbons, make each hd use there own. Normally Raid motherboards allow this.

i did reinstalling the Window Media player again version 9. Same thing happen.

And no, i don\'t do any major changes in harddrive. I still use the old 80 Gbytes hdd. the new 180 Gbytes is not connected to this computer but to my brother whose CPU was believe to be burnt.

I believe my HDD is set on master and primary IDE connection.
The secondary was connected to DVD-Rom and DVD-/+R/RW/ CD RWburner.
