Silent Hill 4
« on: February 02, 2004, 09:19:02 PM »
Have you all checked out any of the screens? Or even the preview videos? Silent Hill 4 sounds so intriguing. The main character, Henry, gets trapped inside his apartment, and after a week strange portals start appearing that take him to weird and twisted places. some of the monsters are very differnt. They are supernatural now, not just twisted creatures. Monsters can come though walls and attack you. nowhere is safe. The rotting human corpses that float through the air look pretty intriguing. Has anyone noticed that the monsters and story gets more twisted from game to game?

SH4 is looking good, I can\'t wait to see these weird creatures flying through the air and going through walls.  I think we will be crapping ourselves with this one.

(I also can\'t wait for RE4 on the Cube later this year.  I think it is going to be something special.  If you have not seen the trailer then you should make a plan to check it out.  I buy Cube and PSM2 magazine every month and the Cube mag came with a preview on DVD this month. Breathtaking:bounce: )

sh4 should be cool, enemies coming through the walls, sounds a little like project zero / fatal frame

 Well, as high quality as SH3 was...... it didn\'t do THAT much for me anymore like before episodes...damn, maybe i\'m just not a sequals liking person. Other examples :

MGS1 i loved it - MGS2 it didn\'t \'catch\' me like i hoped it would, though I\'m hyped for 3.

Onimusha1 loved it - Onimusha2 it bored me to death and i\'m not excited about 3 either.

etc.

maybe the games industry\'s fallen into the \'pitfall\' of \'sequal syndrome\' ....

Dam, am I glad you made that statement.  I feel that since the PS2 launch there hasn\'t been a game that I was really excited for (GTA:VC was excellent and that is really it), like in the PS1 days.  I remember having sleepless nights before Resident Evil 2 was released, I was so excited, even with Silent Hill 1 (Silent Hill 2 had better graphics, but the same gameplay) MGS1, Wipeout 2097 (XL), THPS 1&2, GT1 & 2, Driver... there were so many A class titles to get your hands on that delivered what they were hyped up to be.

Mabe it is just me playing to much games (Since Atari days), because I don\'t know what it is:confused: , mabe 3d games has become common like when 2d games became the norm and did not have that WOW factor anymore in after the MegaDrive days.

I must however say that, as mentioned before, I am getting close to the same ammount of excitement for RE4 on GC, but currently PS2 has nothing that is making me get excited. (I am really worried that MGS3 will be a let down again and over hyped), only time will tell.

tru..there are only a few games i am looking towards to this year as well..

metal gear solid (new)

res evil (outbreak)

bloodrayne2 ( gamespot & ign has new shots up)

kindom hearts 2

the suffering- not sure about this one gameplay might be shady.

silent hill 4- imo the silent hills series destroys res evil..and this next outing should be no different.

I agree that SH most probably kicked RE\'s ass but I think it is a different kind of horror.  RE is the kind of scarry game where something will jump out of nowhere and you s**t yourself.  SH is a game that psycologically works on your mind and makes you so afraid that you end up hitting the power button and replace it with another game.

I must however say that RE4 seems to have changed the overall feeling.  You must see the trailer to understand what I mean.  (I think it used many of the ideas that was used in SH and Fatal Frame;) )

This "jump out of nowhere" in RE has happened so many times, used again and again and again it doesnt surprise you any more

Yeah, I totally agree with you... but I promise you (don\'t hope i\'m putting my head on a block:( ) RE4....you must just see it.  It is just so much more darker now.  In the preview you see some ghostly figure running after Leon with a sword or axe of somekind... and yeah, you heard me right, GHOST?  There will most probably be Zombies but things has made a big u-turn.  I think that Capcom relized that it is going to end up like Tomb Raider if they did\'nt make a big change to the franchise.

Have you seen any movies on it yet?  Keep your eyes peeled for it, I really think (and very much hope) that this will be one of that "can\'t wait for it" titles for this year.
