"AM, FM, TV & Weather Band Tuner"

This is in the spec for an MD player i looking at.

Does it actually mean that it picks up TV audio?

Sure.  FM band is in between channels 6 and 7.  THere are numerous TV radios out there.  That is certainly an option that is easily attainable in a little MD player.

If its for Radio... then you would best looking at DAB digital.

in a few years there will be no FM & AM in the UK.

Why do I keep hearing about MD players on this forum?  I thought it was a nearly dead standard.  Why would you want to buy something that uses a physical spinning disk, with all the mechanical problems that might create, when you could go with a player based on compactflash or securedigital cards?  Not to mention all the hard drive based units like ipod and it\'s copies.  I would consider any of those much more useful than the old minidisk standard.

What\'s the storage capacity of a minidisk?  I\'m curious about why they are so appealing.

Yeh i can take ur point abpout that, but I just like to be able to keep my music on seperate thing - it makes me organised, if it was all on the same HDD then it would get mixed up.

In LP4 mode you can get about 5 hours of music to one 80 minute disc

I like Sony MD Players, ive had the same one for about 6 years - using it A LOT and it still works perfectly im just looking at a new one for A radio tuner, netMD etc. U know with Sony that there products are really good quality

Actually I\'ve heard exactly the opposite, but they do have a brand image of quality.  My experiences with the failure rates of their televisions, DVD players, and receivers would pretty much preclude me from ever buying one of those products from them.  However, they might still be meeting expectations in the portable audio market.

I\'v heard it all when I\'ve heard about Sony being good quality. Yeah, that\'s why Psones / PS2\'s have the highest rate of service repairs / failures over any other console. That\'s why Sony\'s RPTV\'s for the last two years have been subject to recalls / constant service fixing. I would know, I had to have one taken back.

Sony is not quality, people. It\'s all an image.

Sony makes good tubes and portable audio.. that\'s pretty much it on the consumer level.  I got my PS2 on launch and I had to open it up and fix it.  Other than and very loud noises from time to time (I never play it anymore) it\'s a solid piece of equipment.  I\'ve been through a couple of psx\'s though.
