The funny thing about bringing nerdy gamers into corporate game design is how fast they succumb to the power and the luxury. You know, living design documents with unrealistic and esoteric technical demands, numerous nerd-references to other games and movies in their projects with no prior experience to properly apply them, and having arcade machines and expensive furniture installed in the office.

Jesus, just look what happened to John Romero when he hit the big time!

Take a company like Valve that has the ability to go at their own pace and look at the work they produce.

Granted it\'s one every few years but I\'d prefer a Valve game over anything EA.

cant really compare the two. If valve had to release sports games every single year, i think the quality of their work would go down.

EA is more..appeal to the masses anyway. But EA\'s battlefield 2 is probably one of the best games iv ever owned.

^ Alot has to do with publisher pressure and extent of publisher control over IP.

For newcomers it\'s catch22 ; they\'re asked to have loads of experience while they are trying to just get started.

Once you\'re in though, you don\'t really get out anymore during crunchtime weeks ; hence the arcade machines and furniture at the offices which become the dev\'s new home because they need to be there 24/7.
