Forza Triple Screen Setup pictures at E3!

I only like SegaGT Online but this one WILL be my dream Xbox racer. :D

About the game.

IGN.com

Microsoft has learned over the least three years how to make racing games for the consoles, and now its bent on creating a racing sim on its system somewhat like Gran Turismo. Those are our words, of course, not theirs, but it\'s impossible not to create a racer these days without comparing it to the leader. Forza Motorsport is a dedicated racing sim that has the potential to knock Xbox fans of their rockers. The game has the numbers. It\'s got the engine technology, it\'s got looks, it\'s loaded with cars, and all it needs is loving care, polish, and your open mind.

In development with Microsoft Game Studios, this new racer offers driving fans the full modern package. Gamers have the chance to strap into more than 150 cars from 60 of the top manufacturers in the world; it enables you to customize your car, from the superficial outer spoilers, hoods, and fenders, to the engine, suspension, brakes and far deeper into the engine, and it gives you the ability to connect online with as many as seven other players (eight altogether).

Microsoft Game Studios started development on Forza Motorsport two years ago, and while it certainly had GT on its mind, the team has designed the game for Xbox fans in particular. These licensed vehicles can take damage, there are human models in the cars themselves, there is a sensational feeling of raw power and speed in each of the 60-plus cars, and everything is designed to be top notch, with 60 FPS and Dolby 5.1 sound.

While the whole car list hasn\'t been released yet (the game is due this fall), some of the top car makers include a good mix of Japanese, European and American from Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Dodge and more. The game offers several game modes, Arcade, Career, Driver Challenge, Multiplayer, and they\'ll be a Scoreboard, too. And there will be several online modes as well. Gamers without Xbox Live will have the chance to race with up to four players offline simultaneously, with at least eight cars on screen at any one time.

We played the game and it\'s already got a good solid feel; it takes a lap or two to acquaint oneself to the suspension, brakes, and handling. We raced in a standard Japanese model as well as a super-heated muscle car to get a feeling for the range in engine power and handling. Players will need to use their GT skills and get things right here. Braking and drifting into sharp turns is crucial, and watching for other racers will also be a good idea, as Microsoft has its own ideas about how to solve that dilemma. We drove on about three of the tracks, a sampling of closed circuit-style courses, but in all there will be about 15-20 courses all told. Races take place in Rio De Janeiro, Laguna Seca, Nurburgring, Germany, and many others, and gamers can use as many as three to four camera angles to race in.

Each car has its own individual set of specs, based on the real car models themselves, and naturally, as players progress through special events and tournaments, they\'ll unlock newer cars. The team realizes that while GT is a damn fine game, many of the cars aren\'t all that desirable -- you know, several Honda Civics, a handful of small boring, cars. So, it\'s going to give players the chance to unlock more than 150 cars, but few of them will be duplicates. Then there is the customization trend, which Microsoft has attacked with full force. Players can tune all aspects of their cars, test out their new parts, and with the right amount of earnings from previous wins, they can potentially buy as many as 150 after-market parts. You can totally deck out your car\'s looks, and you can race those cars online, of course, in night or day settings.

With regard to handling, Microsoft looks like it will be refining the cars feel all the way \'til it\'s ready to ship. They know what they\'re up against and, again, though they didn\'t make the comparison, rest assured everyone else will connect the dots. Microsoft is also paying particular attention to the game\'s AI. They call their Ai opponents Drivitars, cars that can be trained to drive just like you, modeling themselves on your turns, speeds and tendencies.

The game is still early, believe it or not, but the racing engine is 95% intact, and looking and feeling very good. We\'ll have more in the very near future.

nice cars and buildings... although their backgrounds need work (trees and hills, especially).

If I were them I would try and go a bit different direction.. I don\'t think anyone is going to supplant the GT series this generation...

Tuning your Car

No freaking way!  Check this preview!  Can\'t wait to drive some Porsches!

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=55499

There wasn\'t much in the way of genuinely new software at Microsoft\'s press conference in LA last night, but one game did stand out as being shiny (very shiny, in fact) and new - namely Forza Motorsport, a Microsoft Game Studios internally developed title which is shaping up to be the Xbox\' answer to Gran Turismo 4.

The game gives players access to a garage of over 60 real-world licensed vehicle brands, including cars from Mazda, Nissan, Ferrari, Porsche, Dodge, Mercedes-Benz and Dodge, and then lets them customise and tune them to their hearts\' content.

You\'ll be able to change the engines, swap around the suspension or the brakes, add superchargers or even mess around with real motorsport nerd stuff like fuel mapping, ignition timing and gear ratios. We don\'t even know what any of that means, so it\'s probably pretty exciting if the smell of engine oil does funny things to you.

For the less technically minded, you\'ll also be able to disfigure your car horribly with custom rims, spoilers, skirts, fenders, airdams and decals - transforming the car of your dreams into the car of some horrible little Chav\'s dreams, in other words. Still, it worked for Need for Speed Underground...

Just as the cars are realistic, so too are the tracks, and a wide range of different tracks from around the world have been included in the game - including famous international race tracks such as Germany\'s Nurburgring as well as less conventional tracks in the world\'s famous cities.

When it comes to actual racing, Forza Motorsport isn\'t just a pretty face either (although it certainly is a pretty face - just check out these freshly released screenshots), with a complex driving simulation for which Microsoft consulted extensively with automotive engineers. Damage and wear will actually have an affect on your car\'s performance, as well, while heat and pressure changes will alter the performane of the suspension and aerodynamics of the chassis.

IGN take on Forza Motorsport!

60fps!!

Quote
May 12, 2004 - We sat down today and played Forza Motorsports for the second time, and MAN, is this game good. Being a Gran Turismo fan is a hard thing, believe it or not. Microsoft\'s internal development studio, which has been working on this racing game for more than two years, however, knows that there is nothing out there that rivals Polyphony Digital\'s masterpiece of sim racing, and it is trying, with all due respect to Polyphony, to improve upon the model.

Taking us out again to Laguna Seca, we took dozens of laps with the assists on and off in a Ferrari Moderna, and everything about the game felt and looked good. (There are many more tracks in the game, including Blue Mountains and Tokyo tracks, we just didn\'t get to them.) Seems to be a theme at Microsoft\'s booth this year, but it\'s absolutely true on this game. With basic controls in hands, right trigger to accelerate, left trigger to brake and reverse, players can get right into this speedy, 60 FPS racer. I did. I took baby steps at first, taking the turns slowly and just getting a feel for the road, but even after they took off all the assists, it felt so right. Actually, with the assists off, it felt better! I was able to power into the turns, using controlled drifts to squeeze out power toward the ends of the lines, and accelerate out into the straightaway.

The team, which incidentally is, as a whole, a huge fan of the GT series, loves racing games, and wants more than anything to develop a genuinely realistic racer. This demo proves its hard work was not in vain. Lap after lap I was in heaven, using the consistent sense of control and speed to my advantage. The team has spend years trying to get the specs right from the manufacturers, and each car is tested and tested to the point that the game specs match those of the real-life cars. By the way, in my previous preview, I reported that there were more than 150 cars in the game, and more than 60 manufacturers. Well, that was what I was told, and the number of cars is wrong. There are more than 200-plus cars in Forza Motorsports! Oh God yes!

One of the biggest trends in racing games these days is the ability to customize your car. Forza Motorsports gives you that ability, and it quadruples any other game\'s customization specs, and then some. To give you a few examples: You can put as many decals, stripes, stickers or what have you on your car. There is no limit. It may not look good after slapping down 200 stickers, layering on top of one another, but hey, you can do it. You have the ability to take a stripe and change its shape and color so that, if you wanted, you could cover the entire car with the single stripe.

Customization doesn\'t just pertain to make your vehicle look sweet. You can totally tweak the engine, suspension, brakes, add nitro ad nauseum, but what Microsoft has done is to fit your car with what appears to be dozens upon dozens of tires. Tires you say? Yep, they\'re like walking shoes for people, and they matter more than any game has given them credit for. Apparently, Microsoft is specializing in tires with this game. In an overall sense, each time you upgrade your car, a chart shows the change in the particular parts affect on your car. It\'s very mathematically realistic, giving you a real accurate sense of change and direction.

In short, Forza Motorsports does indeed follow in the footsteps of a great racing series, but these guys onto something, and the ride today, has me ready for 100 more laps. We\'ll have more soon.

Pff.I doubt it will compete with GT4.Polyphony digital has been hard working extensiveley, restlessly on GT4 for years giving as much attention to detail as possible.I highly doubt if any other developer has put the same effort and money on a racing game.Especially when I read thats from Microsoft\'s gaming studios.Bah!

Why does every game except for GT4 have F*ing ferraris! Maybe polyphony is cheap. But they ARE a part of sony correct? Damnit. Didnt project gotham 2 have them? And that game had damage too.

Damn you polyphony
