They should just make another Final Fantasy Tactics and leave out all the androgynous crap.  No more 30 minute moves no more 40 minute movies and NO MORE LOVE STORIES.

FF8 and FF10 didnt offer much gameplay enhancements since FF7 which was too perfect in its time to achieve again the same perfection.FF12 seems to be the first FF to try a different formula from the one used for almost 2 decades.
And thats whas one of the main reasons FF10 wasnt "all that great".Not that it wasnt a great RPG.But the biggest complain is that it didnt differ almost at all in gameplay compared to its 32 bit predecessors. It was mainly a graphical evolution of the series.
When you see games like Shenmue on a less powerful DC with gameplay features utilising the possibilities of more powerful hardware its a shame that FF10 utilised only graphical superiority of the hardware.

FF 10 < previous FFs because in my opinion,  no world map,  not a deep story line,  go from point A to point B type gameplay (sometimes you just ran straight for 5 minutes to go to the new town)

also the towns ranked,  I had NO interested to explore them or to talk to all the people.

The hero ,  while realistic,  was a not a hero for a final fantasy game.   Tidus had no leadership,  and was being dragged around most of the game by superiors like Auron and Wakka.

When I beat the game i had NO intentions whatsoever to replay it.

Amazing since I still play FF7 to this day.

I\'m guessing the downfall of quality because of no longer having prerendered backgrounds,  thus making it longer and harder to make the game.

And Emperor Rob is right.

The\'hero\' and I do use that term loosely,  looks like ... disgusting that they would ever plaster that on a Final Fantasy game.

They just keep getting younger.

Cloud 21
Squall 18
Tidus  17
FF12 Guy (estimate) 15

WTH?  How are we suppose to believe somebody that young can do anything to help the world?

We\'ve gone from men with cigarettes sticking out of their mouth,  men with tattoos,  to little boys.

Anyways,  I just see this as the beginning of the end of the Final Fantasy series.

It had to end some day.

It will happen when people wake up and realize that the quality of the FF francise has turned into a make it look good and sell it type thing.  No longer focusing on the nitty gritty,  side quests,  deep story line.

Now its just big explosions and boom you sold 3 million copies.

Soon the public will realize they are getting crap and stop buying FF thus the end of the series.

Public isn\'t going to realize anything.  Final Fantasy isn\'t going to die any time soon.  Not when it continues to LOOK as good as it does.
Wrong. There are two other people who can.

You wouldnt mind seeing an oversized looking fellow walking in a map with inferior graphics. But seeing this in a FF that is trying to be realistic on a more powerful console that just doesnt fit. Also you should take into consideration that the more advanced games they get the more they cost of production raises.
Also all final fantasies were linear. You  had the chance to do some extra exploring in some parts thats why they didnt seem that way.FFX gave you the same opportunity in less extend in the beginning but gave you the chance to explore a lot after the main story part ended.

Thats not necessarilly bad.Actually that makes you feel more the character.Gives a different sense. You feel both his weaknesses and strengths. This was also presented in FF8 but the character had different weaknesses. And many didnt like him for his character(Which is totally wrong to do such a thing). How many leaders, perfect unrealistic, super powerful characters do we need?Instead of seeing the surface you should try and see the deeper aspect of it that makes such characteristics in characters a work of art.

Yes and also the increase of costs of production.

Heh.FF was never supposed to be 100% realistc. There are tons of other great japanese rpgs outthere you dont know that feature very very young characters. We also havent playied the game to know the main character\'s main role in the story

arent you bored with all these extremely virile game characters presented in most American and European games?I dont think a character with these characteristics express any creativity.

You have to note that japanese have a different thinking than us.When they think of a game character they dont think how powerful he will look. They think of the character\'s story, backround, behaviour and how he blends in the whole story.
Cloud strife didnt look like Barret, neither was he older looking than Squall.Even Sephiroth had feminine looks.
No tatoos, no bad ass attitude, no beard, no cigarrette he even had weaknesses,  but he is considered by many as the best villain ever presented in games

I want a story that is as much fun to go through as FF7 and FF9.  I really can\'t decide which of those two games are my favorite out of the series.

8 was so damn boring, I\'m still forcing my way through it today!

10 was way too much drama.  I really couldn\'t have cared less about Tidus.  The battle system is the best of the series, imo.

10-2 was weird, however it was fun to play.  The job system was very nice, however the active time battle system hurt it, imo.

I take it you haven\'t play Xenosaga.  Most of the movies(it has quite a few) ranged anywhere from 15-30 minutes.  The longest being 45 minutes.  However, the movies in Xenosaga were extremely interesting to watch and just helped the story grow.

FFX seemed entirely staged and the numerous awkward moments between Tidus and Yuna were so dull, imo.

I can make my way around a battle system if the story is intersting enough.

Oh yeah, Grandia II\'s battle system owns all:D

Don\'t count on it. Judging by screenshots and some trailers there seem to be two battle systems in the game. One like is seen in detail in the latest trailer and another more akin to the traditional FF battle systems.
This is my reason to think a world map might be present in FFXII. Traditional, random battles on the world map, and the new one (which still behaves a lot like the old one, only you get to run around) in towns, dungeons and detailed places like that.
But of course that\'s all just guesswork.
