Seminar
Wednesday 26th May 2004
3:00 to 4:00 pm

Alex J. Champandard
Author of AI Game Development (2004),
and Senior AI Programmer at Rockstar-Vienna

(who released the Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto series to consoles)

Abstract
---------------
These are exciting times for AI in video games. Never before has artificial intelligence been taken so seriously by developers and rightly so.

AI promises to increase levels of entertainment
by making non-player characters smarter and more believable.

Not to mention that AI techniques have the potential to reduce development times drastically.
This talk is a review of AI technology in games: past, present and future.

It starts with a history of game AI, and presents the background of academic AI techniques. This provides a
reference to analyse ground-breaking AI systems from recent games.

Then, based on these recent
trends, the lecture speculates about the future state-of-the-art in AI programming.

Finally, expecta discussion of the skills and methods necessary to develop game AI over the next few years and
beyond.

Refreshments available. All welcome.

Going along and if anything intresting is mentioned ... i\'ll post an update here...in this thread

If there is a Q & A after ... i might steer the topic towards  GTA San Andreas.

He might spill some beans about it during the talk.

or it could be just an hour of boring Geek 1337  sp33k
