Earlier this week, Porter told reporters he was looking forward to the team\'s June 2 trip to Washington so he could get in President George W. Bush\'s ear about taxes.
"Man, I\'m steady taking hits," Porter said on Sunday. "I don\'t know who FICA is. At least let me look at them so I know what they look like. I need to know who I\'m paying. I hear about Uncle Sam but nobody\'s ever met him."
Over the next few days, Porter\'s quotes got a fair amount of media play. But the All-Pro linebacker said it was all taken out of context.
"During a lighthearted session with the media, I did joke with them about meeting Uncle Sam and FICA," Porter said in a statement released by the Steelers on Wednesday. "I did not say that I disapproved of President Bush or the job he has done leading our country. We will be guests of the president and I would never do anything to disrespect him."
