def jam poetry..
« on: June 01, 2004, 08:30:32 PM »
anybody here ever peep this? i know it\'s been on for awhile and i don\'t expect the younger set in here to really be too interested in it,..but i think it\'s a good watch..i think it\'s on HBO at around 11:30 est. but the beautiful thing about it is that they have poets of all race and creed from beautifully written poems...

some of the poems are funny some have strong political themes to them some speak about what the poet has seen in his life..all in a forum where blacks, whites chinese, puerto rican etc...all have a voice to share with the world...

along with the poems being brilliantly written theres also the way the poet brings it to life..they seem to make the poem more dramatic in how how they move and express themselves..one thing for sure is that when the show is over some of those poems will give you alot to think about..they had an iraqi poet that expressed how some viewed the war on iraq,..they had another cat talkin from the hood about how these records companies are makin the rappers look like assholes the list goes on and on..it truly is a great watch,..i recommend this to even some of the younger set in here...
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

I love not only the amatuers, but the some of the bigger names they bring to the stage on occassion.

Two of the older guys from chicago that were on during the first season, I have caught in numerous coffee house\'s and open mikes around the city when I lived there. Just kinda cool to see them on TV after you have met them.

They have had a couple of comedians(Dave Chappelle, Jaimie Foxx, Cedric the Entertainer, etc.) and rappers(Kanye West) on there too.
