Any EVE players?
« on: August 14, 2004, 02:41:18 PM »
Anyone here playing EVE: Online?

The best MMOG out there IMO.

The big ship in the background is a Apocalypse, the most expensive ship in the game. ~100 million ISK (compare that to my wallet, which right now holds about 17 million ISK, after lots of hard work. :D)

The game is full of details, like this abandoned mining station.

Mark IV hauler, used to.. haul cargo (minerals, ore or whatever).

Me in a shuttle.. The game is so huge so sometimes you have to use shuttles if you want to get someplace quickly. The haulers for example are very slow. All ships can go warp-speed though.

My ship, Moa class. In warp drive. Warps at 3 AU\'s per second. 1 AU = the distance from the earth to the sun.

When mining, watch out for pirates trying to steal your cargo. As a beginner you start out as a miner, to get cash and upgrade your ships. After you have bought a good enough ship you can do missions for argents, killing pirates, pirate leaders etc. and get cash in reward.

The game also has user made "factions" or "clans" which you can join (I’m member of JuBa Corp), these clans can wage war on each other if they wish.

Me on a mining operation with the corp, we are in a 0.6 level system which can be fairly dangerous if you do not watch your back. The good thing with going on mining operations is hopefully that your buddies will help out when the heat comes. ;)

The game is huge, me and my brother have been playing for about 4-5 months and we still have visited maybe 2% of all systems. The skill tree in the game is also enormous.

The EVE galaxy, each dot on this 3D map is a system which you can visit. (not the best picture)

In a few months the developers are going to release a big patch, codenamed Shiva. This will add a whole new race (there are already 4 races), with its own mini-galaxy etc.

I just saw this if anyone is interested.

That’s what made me join the game. I singed up for a 14-day free trail, 2 days later I signed the subscription. :)

Wops! Sorry PS2_-\'_\'-_PS2, I forgot to check this thread.
Good thing you figured it out.

At first, since you lack any skills in combat, you should go out and mine ore (while you train new skills).. Which you can refine and then sell the minerals on the market (you learned this in the tutorial :p ) .

Yes, you can create/join clans/groups or corporations as they are called in the game. These corps, if they are composed of serious players will give you skill books, ships etc to get you started much faster.

See if you can find one, what race did you select btw?

The HUD is really easy to use. Most windows on those screens are the chat-window, cargo hold, radar and gang-window. The thing to the left is just shortcuts for character info, wallet, browser, jukebox and so on.
The little circle-looking HUD is where you control the ship, weapons, shields, speed etc.
Much easier to use than for example StarWars Galaxies.

I can\'t even connect to the servers!  I have a Dlink router and apparently it doesn\'t like the Eve server.  I searched for a work around with no luck.

Have a look at this: http://support.eve-online.com/cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=600&p_created=1080208833&p_sid=6eUO2Fjh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSZwX2NhdF9sdmwxPTQxJnBfY2F0X2x2bDI9JnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9cG9ydA**&p_li=

If you are connecting from behind a corporate or personal firewall, you will need to enter the server\'s IP address into your firewall configuration, which is 157.157.139.10 port 26000 when using TCP/IP.  You can verify that you are getting a clear signal to the sever by doing the following: Select start->run and type in "cmd". Once you get the command prompt write "telnet 157.157.139.10 26000" and hit enter. If the messages "Connecting To 157.157.139.10...Could not open a connection to host on port 26000 : Connect failed" come up you are not getting through to the server for some reason. For more information about where the connection fails see 8.

Yeah I tried that - didn\'t work.  I won\'t unplug my router either - so I guess I am screwed.  Nice looking game though. :)
