New Speakers Help

My sister gave my mother my her old computer since I had to take the families up here to State.  Anyways, she has 2 small speakers and a sub.  I brought them up to MSU and tried to hook them up to my computer but I couldn\'t get any sound to work from my computer.  What am I doing wrong here?

did you connected it to the right jack?

I believe some pc built in soundcard have 3 jacks for sound, one is Line In, one is Mic In, and one is Speaker Out.

make sure you are connecting the cable to the Speaker out.

Try going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control.

Make sure Main or Wave isn\'t muted and that Wave is turned all the way up.

... very funny THX.  Would their be any chance that these speakers are simply not compataible with my computer?  I have a year old computer... 1.6GHz HP?

huh.. who was making a joke?  When I get no sound I usually check the Volume Control and Wave is turned all the way down for some reason or another.

Another check is to go to System Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and see if you sound card is listed ok under Sound Controllers.

i thought thx gives out some good troubleshooting guides on why you get no sound on your speakers...

Here is the pic of volume control...see if both Play Control and Wave/MP3 volume "Mute All" is not check (black circles).

And see if both knobs are turn all the way up (red circles).  My guess is turning all the way up gives out the most loudest and dynamic sound...

but since i uses headphone sometimes and it gets too loud, i turn it half way, but if you are listening through the PC speakers, I believe turning all the way up give best results...

So i figured it out after a massive online search that my analog sound card does not support my sister\'s digital speakers.  Back off!
