maybe its for diehard fan of ncube may buy it. I wonder how good is the picture quality for a GCube to cost that much. From deinterlacer to its core of video performance...

It probably costs so much since it was discontinued awhile ago. Plus it was only in Japan, so you\'re paying to import it, even if it wasn\'t discontinued.

Also, the specs were the same, except the tiny GameCube game goes into a tray made for a DVD.

not all dvd players are created equal. Even in video and audio performance. Its greatly varies because of how it does the DACs...

but i am not going to get into that. But I do agree, $500 for GameCube is expensive, unless if it can prove to be one heck a "grea progressive scan" DVD player with great video performance...
